Foster.

Just moved from out of state to Foster RI, from Baltimore, MD for work. I moved here because it's where my company decided to rent me a place. I've heard both good and bad about the Foster area and I wanted a locals perspective to consider while I settle in, like best food in the area, a good local rag to read, places to gather and hang around I'm not a bar guy though.

A little about me for context. Almost 50 yr old, Male, heavy into fishing, board gaming, spending out doors and Geo-hunting/antiquity hunting.. Big on the environment especially the fishing community and I'm socially active if I believe in the cause. Not big on hunting, hate racists, and only a few things I won't tolerate and most of that seems to be covered already

Anyhow. Thank you for taking the time to read. I'll answer most anything and everything. I look forward to becoming as local as I can.

We have the Foster Home Journal and Valley Breeze & Observer for local papers. Geocaching, hiking, and fishing are pretty good here (Glocester, Smithfield, Scituate and Foster land trusts do a great job with trails, for instance). Over the line in Killingly, there’s even more outdoors stuff.

There is not a lot of great food in the immediate area, IMO. Mostly pizza type places, although people love Corner Bistro in Scituate for Italian.

So much good stuff to eat in RI! I don’t get pizza too often, but I do leave the area for it most of the time - usually Providence.

Plenty of Southeast Asian spots in Providence or right nearby ( mainly Cambodian, Thai, Laotian, Vietnamese ) restaurants

Zap Zap , Haus De La Vie, Thai Star, Hons (2 locations ) Asian Bakery, Yummy, Thai Star, Bangkok Republik, Apsara, 4 seasons, Gourmet House, Ming Hai, there is a Filipino store that has prepared foods in Warwick called Pinoy Lane. Also several Lao/Thai spots in Woonsocket as well.

I go to Apsara or sometimes Four Seasons for stuff like that. The Apsara on Broad/Public street is better than Hope, if you ask me.

Welcome! There's lots of nice hiking around there if you're into it, including walks around Barden Reservoir, Border Farm Preserve, and the North-South Trail. There are a couple of hiking groups on Meetup that hike the area as well.

I recommend exploring the rest of the state, too. It's super tiny and you're never far from anything... Unless you're a native RIer - for them, anything more than 20 minutes away is "too fah." ☺️

ExploreRI.org is great for finding places to hike and boat. Those are great suggestions. The NST is a super walk to see varied terrain - and you can say you walked across a state.

I'm a forensic accountant. I go over books for inconsistencies "intentional mistakes" fraud, international laundering and all other fun stuff. Foster was chosen due to travel time. Where I'm from an hour or two hours commute isn't outside normal, relative isolation, lack of extra curricular activities for "concentration and accuracy" oh they have a whole formulae for choosing the ideal spot for me to pour over thousands of pages of inter-dept, international, and interpersonal communications and transactions looking for clever games of "let's hide the weasel.

Yes they want me to concentrate. I need a way to take my mind off. So I take their limits of our in the boon docks and find fun things to do

Irony the 6 weeks I spent in Vegas last year doing this job I camped 90% of the time snd opted to live in a trailer so a mobile home is well not about them or below me so as long as I can see the sky or go for a walk I can figure out something to do lol. Out there it was arrow head hunt off the road. Best spot was a recently graded highway service road.

Im the same way. Dislike city bustle but work in DC (not government) at our home office. Love the outdoors but I can't audit the hoover dam either lol. Love the outdoors. Work metro
