I grew up in Pawtucket and left for a few years came back and lived in providence to be around family for the kids ….hated both.

Left for career advancement and now looking to move back looking for a great school system and just nice ppl who seem to be doing stuff with their lives.

I felt Pawtucket was very stagnant and a lot of small minded ppl stuck in their ways.

We would be renting for a year or two. Under 2k ideal but we are willing to pay more if it’s a better area.

Portsmouth, Barrington, North Kingston, East Greenwhich… start off looking at those.

You’d be hard-pressed to find a place to rent, as OP mentioned, in these places. Let alone for under 2k!

Maybe but from the better schools and better put together people those are the places. You might find a house to rent in that price range if you are looking at Portsmouth. Lots more rental properties on the island due to the transitory nature of a Navy base being there. My brother found a great place to rent while stationed at the War College.

Most of RI is small minded in their own way. Look for schools vs quality of life vs what you can afford to pay for rent. Portsmouth, Barrington, NK, and EG are all the most expensive places in RI.
