A lot of place in Rhode Island like to rent to students September until Mid May. Then they like to charge out the ass and do summer rentals. This is especially true for places near coastal areas. Providence and surrounding will certainly have less of this and you are more likely to find year round rentals. One thing to keep in mind is that electricity in Rhode Island just went way up. I only mention this because when you budget plan to spend a lot more on utilities than many other states.

Those beach house rentals are also brutally cold in between November and March. They aren't really winterized. I remember going to friends houses in Bonnet shore and sleeping in my boots and winter coat

Yeah I’m learning that as we speak! Electric baseboard heat is horrible and I’m terrified of the electric bill.

It’s a bit too early for yearly leases for a May start. I’d start looking again February to March-ish.

If you want to live coastal, just keep looking. Narragansett, South Kingstown and surrounding have limited yearly rentals because landlords can make bank during the summer then rent to students for academic year. If you want to find a place, that’s coastal, I’d suggest finding a realtor, or property manager, or look on Facebook/Craigslist and know the scam red flags, because it’s rough down here. In Cranston/Warwick you might find something easier there, but it’s not going to have the charm of PVD or a beach town. My final suggestion, after being a person that moved around a lot, is if you can’t find a place, struggle through with a short term rental, it’ll get you into the state, and you can explore the areas more, see what fits, and be able to tour properties in person.

Good Luck!

Thank you!! I’ve got some time and my move date is flexible. I am also coming back in February to explore some more.

I guess I’ll get downvoted. You might want to look at the surrounding towns of providence. For example, the cost of a safe place in Cranston is more affordable than a safe place in providence.

You might want to reconsider. I've lived in RI all my 39 years and I wouldn't describe this state as beautiful.

Haven’t explored providence much yet. Planning on that early next year! But coming from the Midwest, I understand people not being crazy about the place they’ve lived for so long. I meet people that moved here and truly wonder why they did. I understand your perspective haha
