I’m well aware that we’re a pretty stiff state when it comes to window tinting, I previously had 5% all around on my coupe and had to take it off and pay the fine for that (already ridiculous but tbh fair, 5% was a lot darker than I expected at the time and definitely wouldn’t do the front windshield again if ever going that dark). I was wondering if anyone has had any issues with 20-30%? Planning on going 20 all around and 30 for front. Do we think this would be able to go by largely unnoticed and without police issues? Could I go a bit darker? Any help is great and appreciated.

Edit: As mentioned already “I’m well aware that we’re a pretty stiff state… had to take it off and pay a fine”, I know full well it’s not legal, I simply don’t care. I value my privacy and that of those that ride with me more than I care about this state’s ridiculous laws. This isn’t a pure state where people don’t have negative intentions and don’t act selfishly/crazy. For slight context one of my previous posts in this sub was about obtaining a concealed carry permit. So if all you’re going to do is repeat what I already stated that tint isn’t legal, please save us both the time and allow others that will actually help to reply.

Honestly, it probably depends on things like the kind of car you drive and where you drive it.

I see cars with illegal tint, blacked out license plates and lights, muffler deletions, and other nonworking equipment multiple times a day. Most of them can't possibly be getting pulled over very often.

Inspection time is where most of the enforcement takes place, but there is the chance you could get pulled over if you're not in compliance. As a cyclist, pedestrian and driver I really like to be able to make eye contact or see where a driver is looking, I don't like when people tint their windows so dark that this is not possible.

Im pretty sure the limit is 70%, there’s no way anything darker than 50 will go unnoticed

Plenty of window tint shops do ok by removing tint prior to inspection sticker time and then reinstalling it right after.

I always answer this question that if you have to ask it you know you shouldn't do it

It’s not legal unfortunately. Factory glass is always “tinted” to block UV. Adding basically anything over factory on the front for SUV/truck or any on regular Cars is illegal. Windshield can only be tinted above the AS1 logo.

To be honest the vast majority of cops won't pull you over just for window tint, and even when you get pulled over for speeding, they often won't bother with the window tint citation. I've had 5% for 12 years now, been pulled over at the very least a dozen times, never once had my tint questioned or cited.
