Your Post was removed because it doesn't allow for an on-going conversation.

Huh...and BTW, where in the rules listed on the front page of the forum does it mention anything even remotely close to this? Did a new mod come on board and decide to throw their weight around, or is there actual logic behind this "rule"? I've been on Reddit for a while now and have never seen this requirement for "allowing an ongoing conversation" anywhere else. How about you guys/gals fill us in...

Most of the comments I've seen removed with this notice so far amount to thread shitting or flamebait.

I've been interpreting it as a way for the mods to say "let's not" and nip things in the bud.

Seems like it started shortly after that rampant troll was banned.

I would prefer if they would cite what rules the removed comment violates, for the sake of transparency.

Unique-Public-8594 t1_it004z7 wrote

Yes. Exactly this. Any removal or ban should at least include offending post/comment and rule. Minimum.

I’ve been banned from another sub without telling me which comment/post AND not telling me which rule. No reason given at all initially.

Eventually I was told commenting “this is a duplicate post” violates the Meta rule. Huh? Say what? WTAF? And instead of a warning I get an indefinite ban. Seems harsh and unfriendly.

mkmck OP t1_it023ml wrote

Exactly! I do not know what was in the comments that have been removed, (if it was for dumping trolls, I'm all for it!) so I can't comment on that, but Jesus...if you want us to play by the rules, it might be a good idea to spell out exactly what the rules are. Making them up as we go along, and not posting the new rules so we all know about them, seems a bit ridiculous.

degggendorf t1_isywuba wrote

Yeah the mods here need to get organized and actually publish the rules they're apparently following behind the scenes.

I was told there were some updates coming soon, but that was weeks ago now and I don't think anything has (publicly) changed.

hcwhitewolf t1_it0uatn wrote

I brought it up after we had that conversation and there wasn't much feedback on actually moving forward with it. I can't really change the rules on my own, so they stayed the same.

Proof-Variation7005 t1_isyxsfm wrote

what was it even about?

There have been a few of them I've seen, but none of them were mine, so I can't answer that.

Can we get a comment from one of the official moderators (as shown on the right margin) in regards to this (to ensure there isn't a bad faith actor)?

8

hcwhitewolf t1_it0u302 wrote

It was something along the lines of "Seth is a dope."

Wasn't really conducive to any conversation and was removed. I wasn't the one to remove it, but I think the removal itself is fine.

That response is one of the default responses you can choose in the app. They are kind of a pain in the ass to change so I usually just don't bother using them, and they aren't even accessible (to my knowledge) in the browser version if you use RES like I do.

To put it in context, probably about 90-95% of the comments we remove are for breaking Rule 2. Tends to most commonly be on political posts because people can't behave.

The remainder is mostly Rule 1 and Rule 4 removals. The others are pretty rare.

Down vote me? Ok. It’s true though. I tried to appeal (in another sub) and got muted.

Interesting that this has not been deleted. Typically discussing mods or bans isn’t allowed, no?

Not unless that's another unwritten rule. I do not see that in the sub rules.

I'm not really all that interested in what nonsense some asshole is spewing, and if the mods delete a comment for that reason, I'm all for it. But it seems to me that if there are going to be rules about what can be posted, they should be spelled out in very clear language, like is done with promoting violence or discussing illegal products/services. It's really easy to break rules when you don't have a clue what the rules are.

Not sure if you're being complimentary or taking a dig with that first comment. If it's the former, thanks, but my plate is pretty full right now, with my wife in cancer treatment. If it's the latter...it just seems like common sense to me, but maybe I'm wrong.

I get having wiggle room - no rule should be absolute. Hell, the Constitution isn't absolute on every topic. But the supposed rule they are invoking is nowhere to be found, and that's a problem as I see it.

Agree 100% with your last comment. Let idiocy stay forever, so people can be reminded what an idiot the poster is.

I am far from being anti-mod. I have complimented them myself in the past. It's not an easy job, and like you say, they are doing it for free. I just asked the question - what is this rule no one has seen written anywhere, and is suddenly being enforced without any explanation? Is that an unreasonable question?

Thanks for the thoughts about my wife.

Weird, maybe, but I think it would be an improvement over the same tired talking points being thrown back-and-forth with no real appreciable changing of opinions or positions. Online political discussions are self indulging exercises in one-upmanship which have been statistically demonstrated to not change opinions.

Well sometimes you can be in a discussion which may be of interest to you and then some wing nut takes a right turn (see what I did there?) and starts ranting about politics.

You probably posted something about Rhode Island. This is actually a woke page about RI. Any opinion other than woke is down voted repeatedly. Personally, I don't care, bring it on.

−15

mkmck OP t1_it059o9 wrote

As soon as I see the word "woke", I'm out. That just proves the person is a Trumpsucking idiot.

10

BMorris2526 t1_it06o3y wrote

No, has nothing to do with the village idiot Trump. It just means that you can't disagree with gender fluidity being taught in kindergarten class and you can't object to a woman aborting a baby at 9 months. Those things as re celebrated here

−14

mkmck OP t1_it0c08k wrote

No one is, or is advocating, aborting a baby at 9 months. GTFOOH with that obvious bullshit.

8

BMorris2526 t1_it0cdgk wrote

That's what Seth Magaziner supports. He was asked about it in the debate.

−8

mkmck OP t1_it0daej wrote

No he doesn't. He supports a woman's right to choose, and said nothing about abortion at 9 months. As has often been said...you are entitled to your own opinions, but not your own facts. If you can't at least tell the truth, I'm done with you.

4

BMorris2526 t1_it0fzsu wrote

Apparently you weren't paying attention. When asked if their should be any limitations at all, he responded by saying that such a decision should be made between the woman (what the woke crowd calls birthing person) and the doctor. So a woman has a right to choose to abort a child at 9 months which is aborant and evil.

0

mkmck OP t1_it0hchy wrote

So saying the choice is between a woman and her doctor automatically extrapolates to "kill the baby as it's sliding out the chute"?

Goodbye wingnut.
