It's kinda nuts that polling has Fung ahead right now. I get that Magaziner feels like an out of touch rich elite and he isn't popular but this could be a legit swing vote in the house of representatives. A "blue state" really shouldn't be polling +6 for the Republican candidate right now when nobody's even come close to to taking down the incumbent, the state hasn't voted for a Republican president in 38 year, etc.

When you run the state party like a stepping stone for corporates wanting to go national and keep pushing to the middle you end up not having much room for new candidates to come up that aren't anything but GOP-lite.

No way I would ever vote Fung but there's zero reason to be excited for Magaziner to represent me. Hopefully an empty suit replaced in a cycle same as McKee.

I’m not sure I’d blame the state party for the guy who’s name everyone has long forgotten for getting blown out in a primary

Do you think the RI Dem party is well run / doing a good job? I've not really seen much to be impressed about there.

Proof-Variation7005 t1_ircsb6j wrote

I do not, but I’m not sure I’d blame them specifically for a weak primary where Magaziner got like 55% or the vote in a six way race

So when do we tell you that Fung is winning? now or in nov?

There is no way Magaziner wins in November

Ok come reply to this post after that happens. Seriously what do you get out of going around making proclamations over this for? You've been doing it for weeks. Grow up. Election will come and go and we'll all know the result then.

Because This subreddit needs another outlook on things and not just one talking point. Why wouldn’t you encourage debate? Especially in a state that for the last 50 years is riddled with some sort of corruption and scandal? Do you not want change? Are you okay with prices going up while our elected officials sit on their asses and send our money over to a country for a war that is none of our business?

You don't sound like you're encouraging debate or offering outlooks when you say "When should I tell you Fung is winning? Now or in November?" You just look like another trolling shitposter.

not a trolly shitposter I actually am a bit of a poltical nerd. Always look at dif polls and havent found one yet w Fung losing.

For a political nerd you might want to revisit how polling vs election outcomes has gone for some pretty high profile elections lately.

dman_usa t1_irf0qvc wrote

absolutely, remember on nov 6 2016 hilary had a 98% of winning and later that night she lost every single swing state plus the state of Wisconsin to a guy who never held public office?

Coincel_pro t1_iri3urx wrote

Yes that is one of the ones I was referring to. Maybe think about that when you comment stuff like "There is no way Magaziner wins in November" then try to act like you're a 'political nerd who wants a debate'.

I have nothing to debate on with the current GOP. Zero. Do not want anything they are selling. They might accidentally align on an issue I agree with but its firmly in "broken clock" territory. Prices going up while officials sit on their asses and money going to countries for wars that are none of our business has been the status quo for the past 4 presidential administrations at the least irrespective of party.

The dems in RI are shit, been vocal about that many times, but I'd still prefer a rash over stage 4 cancer.

I don't disagree with a majority your points. Saying I'm surprised at one poll wasn't meant to be a wholehearted endorsement of this poll or any polls.

I think there's value in the info but it's really just 1 isolated data point in this case. I think you can question the methodology all you want, but this one might not be wrong right now. It's still super early and there's a huge undecided margin. Even a broken clock is still right twice a day every single day.

I'd expect the final margin to be much closer if Fung did win. There's probably about to be a shit ton of PAC money coming into the state given that it's a competitive seat and the House might end up being that close. I'd hope Magaziner isn't dumb enough to just rely on attacking Fung without a clear "Here's why I'd be better" message.

Like, attack the shit out of him because there's zero indications he'd be anything more than a lockstep Republican vote but you need more than that, especially when there's going to be a lot of voters who consider themselves more moderate or independent that are going to be voting for McKee and not really feeling great about it. I could see people like that splitting their house vote to the other side if they're not made to feel strongly one way or the other.
