Update: I had an appointment for today, 10/11, at the Boston agency and was able to get one today . Just had to pay the $60 to expedite and I had all the documents they asked for.

They have places that do this very service for a few hundred dollars I believe. I think the closest one is in Boston
Yes! When I did it it was necessary to show proof of international travel in the next 14 days. I had to go to Portsmouth NH because the Boston office had no appointments, otherwise pretty painless (except for the extra fee to expedite). They definitely said no walk-ins, and that’s why I skipped Boston to go to Portsmouth, but when I was there in the waiting room, they definitely were taking walk-ins… So maybe they say that just to limit it 🤷♂️ Mine was also a renewal versus a new passport, so not sure if that changes things…
It's by appointment only as a side note.
Did this like 10 yrs ago. Took all day but worth it if you need an emergency passport
Lol no. But we did expedite a passport for one of our children recently and we got it back within a couple weeks.

You must make an appointment to apply at a passport agency.
To make an appointment, you must call 1-877-487-2778 or 1-888-874-7793 (TDD/TTY). Se habla español. Be sure to keep track of the appointment confirmation number and the check-in instructions you will receive by email from the National Passport Information Center. You will need this information on the day of your appointment.
Yes, but it's not like you walk in and it's same day. You need a plane ticket booked and then call the passport agency in Boston. They'll book you an appointment within 48 hours of your flight--for me it was same day as my flight. You go there in the morning, give them your info and payment (few hundred), and then come back in the afternoon to pick up passport. The agency is in the MBTA headquarters building. Good luck!
Yes, but this being RI, I had to know a guy.
Also they won't do it if you're like "oh I just booked an international vacation for next week". It MUST be for urgent need or an emergency.
That is for the emergency 48h route. There is an urgent travel option for people with planned flights which are unable to use the expedited 4-6 week turn around.
Yes, I got my current passport same day. I flew with it and passed through immigration with the passport being less than a day old. I wrote about using the Boston passport office in the Boston subreddit.
Thanks!
And has no guarantee
Lol
Amazing how this is the top comment when so many others prove it wrong.
