My mom is seeking a 1 BR apartment accepting Section 8 housing and a small (around 35 lb) dog.

She’s mid-50’s, non-smoker, very clean and quiet. She is looking to move from Wrentham, MA to be closer to my daughter, her first and only grandchild.

She’s hoping to find an apartment in one of the following areas: Cranston, Johnston, Coventry, West Warwick, Warwick, but will consider nearby to those areas.

Does anyone know of anything?

Apartments in general are REALLY hard to find, not to mention section 8. Maybe try Zillow or facebook marketplace.

Thank you, we have been keeping our eyes out but haven’t had much luck. Hard enough to find an apartment accepting Sec. 8, but on top of it, a dog. I know it’s kind of a needle in a haystack situation, but figured you never know whose eyes might see this and know if something or have something becoming available.

How much monthly can she spend on rent?

No harm asking here. You might get lucky.

As you understand, a landlord with a hundred applications for one apartment is just looking for ways to thin out the pile so the first criteria to eliminate would likely be pet owners.

I would have her reach out directly to RI housing and refer to their website for places that accept section 8. The voucher has a limit of how high the pricing is allowed to be and many apartments income requirements are high and not compatible with low income applicants.

Try to get in touch with real estate non profits and housing authorities in RI. They’ll have good, specific leads for you. That being said, there’s just not enough affordable supply out there so this will take some effort and patience. I hope you find something great!!
