Forbes has listed PA has the fourth best state to start a business. I think this is great news as someone who is considering forming an LLC. I'm curious if you agree.

Please share your small business experience here :)

Hurray keeping minimum wage down to starvation levels does make the state look awesome to exploit folks!

If one's business model depends on exploiting workers, one shouldn't be in business. I'm in Philly so $15.00 seems to be the functional minimum, so I'm looking at $18.00 to help get better folks.

Yeah have to admit getting my LLC and everything necessary was pretty easy and cheap, and getting all my state licenses lined up with it was very straightforward.

Unless it’s a business involving a liquor license.

I think thats hard everywhere. Do you think PA is even more difficult than other places?

We're one of only 14 or 15 states that monopolize liquor, so yes.

I registered a Sole Proprietorship about 4 weeks ago. According to the website they are still working on entities from the middle of November still. It was easy to set up though. I actually hired a specialist to set everything up and they charged me basically nothing because all they had to do was fill out 2 forms and both were online.

Woohoo! I'm in the process of forming one. Actually, have all my legal ducks in a row and am lining up funding, so this is great to hear. I'm in Philly so there are extra hurdles, but I spent a career on the other side of that counter in other places so it doesn't intimidate me.

It's still close to the vest because it's an under-served market. I'm thrilled you asked, but I don't want to get beaten to the punch. I hope you're not offended.

You figured me out! I was going to move from PGH to Philly and steal your idea :(

Lol, not worried about you, but you never know who's reading! And after moving across the country to pursue this, I hope you'll forgive some (possibly excessive) caution on my part.

Theres no such thing as excessive caution. Only regret because you didnt take heed

Nice, I just started 3 over Xmas break from a job I extremely hate that makes me want to run away into the woods

Not that I have any much money to spend on them anytime real soon, but the zine is already kinda taking off a bit, my shitty punk songs... not so much 🀣 (but now I have a label that has a artist with an album/videos out, and a zine in publication)

Dang folks. Why all the hate?

Because pa sucks.

Don't hit me with " then leave ". I'm working on that

Fr tho it is kinda easy to start a business legally but what about getting clientele. At least on the east coast people are ass holes and extra stupid here. Altho that might be all the Jersey folk moving in πŸ˜†

I think that very heavily depends on your business. Trying to do anything in the luxury/commodity space? Sure leave PA.

Doing things in agriculture? It is ezpz compared to some other rural states.

sneakysquid102 t1_j5aqwns wrote

That's a fair point. My cousins are doing swell in agriculture.

My area is also about the worst area in pa. Poconos to be specific. Nothing but resort after resort around here and all the vacationers. And we know how those folks are.

Oh yeah... Unless you're doing something related to hospitality or mid-high end dining, starting a business out there is going to be tough.
