The Turnpike is replacing toll booths with gantries. They're the high-speed cameras that read ez-pass and license plates at highway speed. The buildings will contain the electronics/computers necessary for the gantries to function. Once installed, the toll booths will be demolished, and you'll be tolled based on which gantries you passed through rather than where you got on/off. NY and MA already have these installed on their toll roads (but without fancy masonry because, you know, gotta justify the rip-off toll prices here)

Delaware needs to take a lesson from this. You miss a $4 toll and are sent a bill for $60. PA has been sending a bill for the exact amount of the toll since universal toll by plate.

Yea, DelDot sent me a fine notice for running an exit toll on Del Rt1. The toll was 50 cents and the scanner didn’t pick up my transponder even though it picked up my transponder entering the road in Dover. I sent them back a polite letter with a copy of my EZPass report and two quarters. They must of been ok with it. I didn’t hear back from them.

I experienced a similar problem but was not an Ez-pass holder. I was missinformed and believed erroneously that Delaware was using toll by plate.

I did have it forgiven. I quickly got a PA EZ-Pass and sent a check for the $4 and a copy of my account balance on the EZ-pass, but I whited out the opening date. PA puts another date at the bottom of the form that corresponds to your toll-by-plate customer date. Delaware sent me a nice letter saying I was forgiven. Thank fucking GOD!
