How about building an actual community where every child feels supported and cared about instead?

They aren't going to win, but that doesn't make it pure theatrics. It's pretty well documented at this point that social media is terrible for the mental health of teenagers.

From the article:

>Pittsburgh Public Schools solicitor Ira Weiss called the proposed litigation “appropriate action to take.” The proposed lawsuit would seek to recover increased costs associated with therapies, learning loss, counseling and other mental health services.

>He said there will not be a cost to the district because one of the law firms will be covering the upfront expenses.

This school district is filled with administrative positions that are beyond out of touch. They climb the ladder then get to a point where they can't get higher, so new positions are created and there are tons of people who sit in office buildings making up wasys to justify their position. If they cared about mental health, they would work to equalize the quality of all of the schools and not focus on the magnet schools. How does it effect the mental health of a student to know that they're not "good enough" to get into the IB school, CAPA, or the other magnet programs? The kids in the general high schools are pretty much told by the district that they're not worthy of the extras so they fit into the mold that the district sets for them.

ALWAYS shoot the messenger.
Bullies will always bully. Especially with the Republican Party thriving on hate and intolerance towards marginal communities.

The abuse and lack of mental health care is what makes public schools shitty, not social media lol

Get your kids off social media is the simple solution. There's no reason for anyone under 15-16 to be on it.

You think lawyers work for free?

They'll want compensation, win or lose, for their time. And agreeing to covering the upfront expenses doesn't mean they are doing the entire case pro bono.

Plus there is the possibility that the losing party will also have to pay the legal expenses of the winning party (unsure of those particular laws here in PA). So not only could we, the taxpayers, be on the hook for the legal costs of the school districts - but also the legal costs of the social media platforms they are suing.

I misunderstood the post. I thought it implied that the district's attorneys were handling the case on a contingent fee basis. "Upon further review," it just said they would cover the "upfront expenses," whatever they are. That's what my brain saw on a quick scan.
