I keep a TV-B-GONE on me at all times for just such an occasion. It is small enough that you can easily palm it and it has around a 95% success rate in turning off TVs.

Many times the wait staff doesn't even have access to the remotes to turn the tvs back on. Blissful silence reigns again.
