I loved the plastic insulated drink mugs that they sold in the front concession area. They had different Hanna Barbera and Looney Toon characters printed on them.

I really honestly miss Kmart so bad. My kids and I literally cried when the last one near us closed. I grew up shopping there and they remembered going there a lot when their dad/my husband and my parents were all still alive. Then my husband died. Then my dad. Then my mom. Then we’d go to Kmart and be like “wish dad or etc were here”. Then they closed and one more memory gone.

I hope so. I loved Ames.

I grew up in the North-East, and remember when Ames bought out the failing BIG N (Neisner's) Department Store in the late 1970s. Jamesway was also popular in my area. Ah, the nostalgia!

The running joke in our area was people couldn't figure out how to spell Jamesway so they shortened it to Ames lol.

I worked for Hills nearly 10 years. Went through chapter 11 with them. When I heard Ames was buying us….. out I went. Didn’t even want that on my resume.

Loss prevention/hardlines/ops manager here.

Hills gave me my first “real” job.

Me too! It was my first job in high school. My mom had to sign my working papers so I could work at 16 years old. I worked in the toys and seasonal departments during school days and stocked shelves on 3rd shift during the summer. So many great memories there.

When they moved to Ames at a different location, I didn’t go either.

I think them calling it a "Department" store is a real stretch. I guess I'll be off to Walmart Department store tomorrow.

I don’t think many people under 40 even know what Ames is I guess “department store” is the best way to describe it.

Walmart is a department store, though....always has been.
