Staying in Canadensis, looking for a restaurant for our anniversary dinner in Jim Thorpe?

Husband and I will be celebrating our 5th wedding anniversary next week and will be staying in Canadensis but we were considering a day trip to Jim Thorpe for our anniversary dinner and to take in a little Christmas charm. Any restaurant suggestions? I like dressing up (dress, heels), so any place where that would be appropriate would be nice :) Will also happily accept recommendations for Canadensis as well, we will be there for a few days and I’m okay with switching up plans if something else looks best.

Butter is a nice restaurant in Canadensis but you'd have to check their hours. It's fairly off-season around there. The Tap Room at Skytop has been redone and is good. You don't have to stay at the Inn to eat there. The French Manor in Newfoundland, about 20-25 minutes up the road is fancy and expensive but quite nice. Basso in Cresco is decent for more casual Italian. Bar menu is good value. The Forks in Mountainhome is also pretty good. Their Ropa Vieja and Chicken Quesadilla (not the kind that you think) are really good as are any Cuban-ish dishes.

I live only a town away from Jim Thorpe and I recommend the sushi spot called myst if you like sushi… if not there’s a bar and restaurant behind the bike shop not sure what it sells but I’ve heard good reviews. But Rosetta’s (now called three brothers I believe) in Nesquehoning is good but their specialty is pizza and burgers ya’know stuff like that.

not sure about restaurants but check out promised land state park. super easy to see the eagles this time of year!

Dinner: Definitely “Moya” for a quality dining experience, you’ll need reservations. Also check out the options at “Stone Row” and “Marion Hose”. Also not far but “The Gorge Eatery” at The Hofford Mill has great food as well.

Other Recommendations/Notes:

  • “Notch 8” for PA Craft Beer/Liquor also good food in a bar setting.
  • “Wild Elder Wine and Cider” for Charcuterie and Wine/Cider Tasting
  • “Union Publick House” pitches themselves as “Jim Thorpe’s Dive Bar”, but it’s a real solid choice to get good food and drinks. Not for a fancy anniversary dinner, but if you’re looking for more things in the area!

I’d avoid Molly Maguire’s, it’s definitely a Tourist aimed restaurant. Not aggressively bad, but, pricey for very basic food/drinks. At least the last time I was there.

Double check what’s open when, the town is pretty quiet Mon-Wed.

the hotel in Jim Thorpe (right in town) has been very good at lunch. I regret I don't remember the name but it might just be the Jim Thorpe Hotel
