A few weeks ago I got a call from PECO saying they need to inspect my indoor meter. Could they come out the following week on Wed with like a 4 hour window. I said no, I would be at work. She confirmed "so no one over 18 will be there?" I said no, and she said to call back when I could arrange a time.

So I was confused, I've had Peco all my adult life and never got that request before, thought I was an idiot who just told someone when no one would be at my home, but it did come up as Peco on caller ID. Forgot about it.

Just got home to a 2nd Notice / 10 day shut off on my door.

Is this real?! I live alone and work an hour away. Can they actually require that I take a day off work for this?

Update: So I called the main Peco 800# and went thru the prompts. They told me I have an outdoor electric and indoor gas meter, and the inspection is legit. She said they should be able to accommodate my schedule for an appointment. Thank you for listening to my Ted Talk.

Call PECO through the number on your bill and confirm.

Also, residential PECO meters have radio communication with their op center. It maybe that the meter has not been reporting..

Peco's rules require the meter to be outdoors, your property is grandfathered in as an indoor meter (they can't force you to hire an electrician to move your meter). They need to preform regular inspections to make sure the meter hasn't been tampered with / your not stealing electricity.

Would there be more than 1 meter? I just looked my outdoor one and it's doing it's thing.

Your original post says indoor meter. If you have an outdoor meter you shouldn't have another inside. Peco's jurisdiction stops at the meter / taps onto peco lines in their favor depending on situation.

The woman on the phone said indoor meter. I just looked and I have 1 on the side of my house.

Maybe a scammer then, more then likely you do not have a second meter inside the home.

It’s possibly his gas meter. My electric meter is outside but by gas meter is in my basement.

Your electric meter should be on the outside of your house. The gas meter, if you have one, might be in your cellar. It would be a Grey box looking thing with a glass window. Behind the window will look like a car odometer. It should have 2 pipes coming out of it with a dial on 1 of the pipes to turn it off and lock it. New houses have all the meters outside now. Older houses have the gas and water meters in the cellar most times.

UGI is switching inside gas meters to outside meters whenever possible.

Do you have both gas and electric through PECO or just electric? I’d call the number on you bill and speak to customer service.
