I applied for a PA state government job months ago, I had an interview about 2.5 weeks ago. It seems promising. I followed up with the interviewers a week after the interview. They said once they get their notes finalized they’ll send it over to HR, but they could take “weeks to months” for them to make a decision and an offer.
Has anyone been in this position before? And how long was it from interview to hire?
If it's anything like any other government job I've experienced, literally months. Six months isn't uncommon.
EDIT: On the bright side, if you're still available when they reach back out, you're pretty much guaranteed to get it. IT hires move so fast right now that 80%+ of the pool they interviewed is going to have other jobs by the time an offer gets made.
I’m currently driving to NoVA/DC for work. This job is rather different from what I’m doing, and a pay cut. But being able to work from home, at least part time would be totally worth it.
It has, unfortunately, been taking a long time lately. I’ve worked for the Commonwealth for almost a decade and sometimes positions are filled quickly, other times it seems to take longer. I interviewed to transfer a few years ago and roughly a month passed before I heard anything. Good luck.
I've heard from a manager that since Harrisburg 'streamlined' the hiring process it is taking up to 75 days from the time they submit a name for hire until Harrisburg HR approves it. I interviewed for a DOH position in March that I didn't get the rejection letter for until the end of July.
That’s completely uncalled for considering the process that was in place prior to the change seemed to be working.
When I got a job with them I interviewed on September 28, was not offered a position until mid May the following year.
Some HR agency and new civil service system was implemented and it seems like everything is taking longer now. My department has had 2 vacancies since June that haven’t been filled yet.

At least that’s what they said during the PA Congress hearings when it was getting approved.
My agency actually participated in those hearings. We basically said, “this is not going to work like you think it will due to X, Y, and Z.” We were patted on the head and told you don’t know anything. We were right.
and in the meantime they're still throwing out applications from qualified candidates in favor of interviewing veterans that turn down the job, resulting in not filling vacancies and non-veteran candidates getting frustrated and not applying for commonwealth jobs anymore.
So about 5 years ago I internally was the only candidate who applied for an IT job. Only person interviewed. Still took HR about a month and a half to spit out that I was qualified so my boss could offer me the job.
Fun part was when the position was vacant I was doing the job "to keep everything moving". The powers that be don't pay you both salaries.
All of that was when the HR system was internal to the agency. With the consolidated system now I would guess that efficiency has went down.
I've applied to work government jobs (mostly case management type stuff) for PA before. I think once it took a good 3 months to hear back for an interview. By that point I had already found a position that I liked and declined the interview. I guess what I mean to say is be prepared for a long wait. If you can't wait then just take another position and if the government IT job does get back to you months from now, you can consider moving to that.

Edit: Nevermind.... N.B.: HR has been getting their butts in gear lately so it could only be a few weeks.
Last state job rejection I got took a year lol
My last rejection took a few months, but I hadn’t had an interview. I’m one of 3 candidates here so I’m hoping to hear some good news 🤞

Took me 3 months to get a rejection email for a PADEP job and that was after it took them a month to contact me for an interview lol don’t expect timeliness

Unfortunately, they are correct with the time frame. Ever since they hired some other company to handle HR (as opposed to each local department having their own), things move slower. Even internal job postings can take forever unless someone from a higher position bugs them about it.
