Disclosure: I am an inspection mechanic

PennDOT says that any registered and insured vehicle that will be operated in the state may be inspected. Even with a temporary tag. Even if that temporary tag is issued by another state or even country.

You may even present the vehicle for inspection without either of those things if you want. It will just be recorded in the logbook as a fail, you have to pay anyway, but can come back and have the sticker installed once you have the paperwork. I dont know why you would do this, but you can.

Don’t forget your commercial driving insurance.

How can they require you to get. State inspection when. It all states require inspections? Why didnt you have the seller have the vehicle inspected before you bought it?

Thanks! I do have it on my insurance. It's Carvana and I'm not sure why they can't issue plates immediately. They had legal issues with the state and issuing titles I guess. It's their process, I'm not really sure why they don't do it.

Yes you can get an inspection with a temp tag and registration. Just take all the paperwork and insurance with you. I should have asked is the temp tag for pa?

Yes. A valid registration and insurance are required, does not have to be a Pennsylvania registration. Note, Pennsylvania law does not require inspections until you're actually registered in Pennsylvania, then you have 10 days. Some inspection stations and mechanics may be unable or unwilling to wrap their heads around this, but it's fact.

Thanks so much. Just one more question just to confirm, you mean that an AZ temp registration will work in PA? I got the car from Carvana and they are headquartered in AZ, so I think it's a AZ registration. I am not sure how to tell for sure. Also, how do you know this? Do you work in a shop?

Former safety inspection mechanic certified. Any currently registered and insured vehicle qualified for safety inspection and sticker application, regardless of what state it was registered in. There was far more attention paid to insurance, ie meeting pa standards. I assume the same is true for emissions. Make sure you get emissions inspection in county of residence.
