He would have turned 20 on Dec 16th. He was in Bastogne form Dec 1944-Jan 1945

My great uncle was there, too. He kept warm by drinking hot lemonade made from powder, but still got some nerve damage in his feet. Never liked lemonade after that!

Your grandfather has all of my respect to endure that at such a young age as well. Such a hard generation of guys.
My grandfather fought in Korea at 18, and is known as an “Atomic Marine” since he got to witness some nuclear explosions with other Marines in trenches and stuff. I only know of that because of a news article of him.

Nothing but respect for that man. He looks cold and frightened. Glad he made it out alive.

The town became surrounded. The German commander demanded the heavily outnumbered American forces there surrender. The American commander sent a one word reply. "Nuts!".

Definitely not the first Private to find themselves somewhere pretty damn crappy and saying, “What was I thinking?”. Nor is it the last.

My ex’s mothers 3rd husband was a Battered Bastard. I never knew it until the last time I ever saw him. I wish I had known sooner and maybe he would have talked a little about it. Pure living history right there.
