On November 21, 1973, Richard Creamer took this photo of John Lennon, Anne Murray, Harry Nilsson, Alice Cooper, and Mickey Dolenz at the Troubadour.

Is it me or does Lennon look like Geddy Lee?

Harry Nilsson was the first artist whose album I listened to on repeat until I had it memorized. I was three or four and the album was The Point.

Which explains a lot about who I am as an adult lol

Was this the particular time that John and Harry were walking around with womens’ sanitary products stuck to their foreheads?

My parents used to play this Anne Murray 8-track very loud whenever they were doing the nasty in their bedroom. We lived in a small house so I can't stand the sounds of loud bed springs or Anne Murray.

I saw the red hot chili peppers open for the monkees in the mid 80's at the Greek theater in LA. There encores included a Hendrix tune. The band finished the set with sock puppets on their junk . The teen girls behind us were screaming for them to get off the stage. We got kicked out during the monkees finale because we kept moving seats. One of my claims to fame....got kicked out of aMonkees show.

hell yeah!! one of his great albums. I fixated on this artist for a little while, I have a box set with something like 23 albums. His early albums are all excellent, then he shot his voice in a yelling contest with Lennon, then his voice wasn't quite the same but there's still excellent gems here and there on his later albums and he died waaaaay too early

"Pandemonium Shadow Show" and "Nilsson schmillson" are excellent

Do any other early millennial / late gen-xers love Nilsson’s the point as much as I do?

Click! Track two. Did the album go into repeat? Don’t answer that question. As a small child I couldn’t figure out why my dad was telling my mum jokes all night. All I heard was soft giggles. Then I figured it out. Childhood ruined.

The four of them (minus Anne Murray) were regulars of the sunset strip together. In fact they had their own private room upstairs at the Rainbow Room Bar called the Vampire Lounge where only they were allowed and any of their guests.

Still one of the best half-hour cartoon "specials" ever to air on American network television.

There's still debates among animation fanatics whether the best narration is Nilsson's ( the Soundtrack album), Dustin Hoffman's ( aired for the original broadcast only) or Ringo Starr's ( the one on the commercial distribution). I have both the latter on VHS, & the Soundtrack, & Nilsson's is close to my heart, but Hoffman's is pretty terrific.

I had no idea there was an animation of it until at least high school in the late 90s when I was telling a friend about The Point and he said "that weird cartoon narrated by Ringo Starr?"

I got to meet her before a show at Chastain Amphitheater. They were doing a sound check while I was finishing modifications to the concession stands. Nice lady. The client told us to give them whatever they asked for on the house. The crew were smoking a joint in the middle of the seating.

I loved that show when I was a kid. I had such a crush on Davy Jones. Trouble was I was watching reruns in the 80s/90s and I remember entertainment tonight or some such had the monkees on and I was CRUSHED (and confused) to learn my crush was now an old man.

That was a few months later in March 1974 prolly when they discovered the joys of endless Brandy Alexanders. John supposedly found a pad in the toilet, whacked it on his forehead and it stuck there. He said to a waitress, ‘Do you know who I am?’ She replied, ‘Yeah, an arsehole with a Kotex on his head!’ Lol

My dad recently unearthed his copy of The Point. I had never heard of Harry Nilsson before- you better believe my dad fkn jumped at the chance to introduce me to his stuff. So we spent some time listening to the album with Dad reminiscing about his teen years :)

I told my mom we had listened to The Point and her response was "Harry Nilsson... that weirdo." Lol
