Hahahaha he would have loved this joke! This is how his music in the '70's was, sweaty, raw, and funky. He was a sexy mf.

Anything recorded?

You should give his and the bands name, someone here will remember him/them.

He had a couple of recordings. I have one of his 45's that I will digitize and upload soon. My first concert was his band opening for The Commodores in an arena, was insane! Thank you for asking and for taking the time to connect here.

His name is Randy Scott. He had several bands but my favorite was Platinum Plus. Full 70's funky shiny costumes and giant afro wigs. 8-10-ish players with full horn section and dad on drums and vocals. He was a boss.
Thanks for the suggestion and for taking the time to connect.

I like the desktop pointer pin he's wearing, way before the times! Just kidding.
This is pretty cool to have of your dad to look back on!

Heheheh he was way ahead of his time!
Yeah it is so cool to have connections to our ancestors. Helps to keep focused and stay on path. Thanks for commenting!

What city was he based in/ what part of the country did he perform in?
everlovingkindness OP t1_j6nbvng wrote
Interestingly enough based in Salt Lake City, which may be why he did not become a star in the rest of the world.

When I think of 70s Utah music, I think of the Osmonds.

Oh come on! That is some 1st concert - what year was that?
Do any of his bling 70s shirts still exist?

Man I wish...he had some unreal costumes. Satiny with huge shoulders and million inch platform shoes. Funky.
It was 1978 I think (maybe 1979) and it was at the Salt Palace in Utah. Looking for exact dates on the interweb but cannot find. Was indeed quite an entry into the world of arena shows. The word from backstage was that Lionel (whom I love) was a bit snooty and wouldn't talk to the opening act! The rest of the band were cool though.
heliskinki t1_j6pgjha wrote
Wow, what a time to see them, peak disco. Yeah Lionel always was a diva, that doesn’t ruin the memory at all though I am sure.
