The look on the kids' faces. Jesus!

And is the kid on the right 2 months or 40? He's seen some shit

And they decided to have kids? I mean, I applaud their breaking of social stigma, but man, their parents must be pissed.

Mom: let’s get our family picture made!

Dad: this is some bullshit! Can’t believe you’re making me do this!

Twins: I’m hungry! I just shit my pampers!

Check this shit out. My brother and I were premies and he almost died and our parents were way too young to be dealing with that. I have a Master’s degree and senior management role despite my low IQ.

I apologize -- judging by the downvotes my comment came across as really judgmental. The new parent exhaustion + the "confused newborn" expressions combined in a way that struck me as funny in a "these people all have silly expressions," way, not a, "haha those people are idiots" way. Like I wrote, I would not assume anything "real" about the intelligence of anyone in the picture based on this one snapshot moment. It really is a sweet family portrait, and I'm sorry for being a dick about it.

The classism in this comment section is…yikes.

For context my brother and I were premies. In the 1980s. He spent the first 2 months of his life in the NICU and almost died. It was a lot for my young parents to deal with.

Oh, and I managed to earn a master’s degree despite our collective low IQ 🖤.

I really like this picture! Your parents look like so many young couples with kids from that time period. You’ve done really well for yourself. How is your brother doing now? Did your parents have more children?

As someone who had a child in 1987, this photo hits me in the core. The fashion, the exhaustion and the unflattering picture. Such tiny babies - no one here was sleeping.

Thank you! I love this picture and how ridiculous we look definitely reflects how we all felt at the time. My brother is still a hilarious character and our parents had one more in 1990.

I'm a twin that was born early to young parents too and both of us ended up great academically, but my parents definitely have a few pictures where you could tell they were very sleep deprived, haha.

My mom didn't really want any more babies after we were born, haha. She didn't want ultrasounds or anything during the pregnancy (they were more hippy, natural people) so they didn't even know we were going to be twins until the day before we were born!

I just don’t like the passive aggressive comment like I’m supposed to be a kind reader and know they were premature. Like post it with the post or don’t get mad when people point out the obvious without knowing anything. It’s just a childish way to view the internet to expect ME to care about YOUR problems

The4leafclover1966 t1_j6ng0yl wrote

Look, Reddit can be whatever you want it to be — but you have to keep in mind that for other people it’s what they want it to be as well.

Your expectations can change on a daily basis, or even a sub-to-sub basis, and that’s cool.

The OP didn’t post this thinking or anticipating that people would be cruel about their looks and that they survived being born premature.

They just wanted to proudly share a family picture from 30+ years ago.

My thing is you don’t have to always like or appreciate something — that’s certainly your prerogative. Just scroll on by and find something you do like. I just don’t understand the unkindness.

I lost my daughter two years ago to suicide — she was 34. She was born a month premature a year earlier (1986) than these twins. Her untimely and devastating death makes me look at things a little differently — and I try to pass along what I’ve learned. Take it or leave it.
