I got the same thing for Christmas, but I think mine was in '88. I remember clearly my first tech-support issue and resolution.. unsatisfied with my performance in "Mario," I wanted to start back from the beginning, but didn't know how.. wasn't sure what "reset" meant but it sounded advanced.. didn't want to screw it up.

My older brother, in a stroke of genius, made a suggestion which would prove indispensable in the world of electronics trouble-shooting..

"Try turning it off and back on again."

Very likely.. but by 1990 the console was available as part of several different bundles, some of which might have included Mario, Duck Hunt, World Class Track Meet, Super Spike V'Ball and Nintendo World Cup.
