He flunked out at U.T. because he spent too much time dancing, wrestling, rowing, etc. He doesn't do research. And a lot of his pop science is wrong. But you don't really need to be good at math and science to be a successful pop science celebrity.

Pop scientists are very important in cultivating the next generation of scientists.
