After months of being badgered for one, I bought my partner one for christmas 3 or 4 years back. It came out of the box once...

Right? Zero useful purpose though I think we (meaning my older brother... it was his) had the trailer hookup thing so maybe, kind of useful to send snacks across the room?
mySleepingDogsLie OP t1_j9wflbw wrote
Tried not to. It did not work.

I have an InstaPot like that.

My brother had one back in ‘80. Was pretty cool. Discovered that winter that our garage leaked. Shouldn’t have stored it in an old fish tank. Did look pretty cool suspended in a block of ice, but wasn’t particularly functional after that. Good times.
Edit: Could be iffy on the exact dates.

I had the trailer and I swear it was the only thing it was good for was the 30min (or less) delivery from across the room.

i had that toy
"big trak"
programmable movements and sounds
i had an evil grandmother who got made at me and broke it

Ih crap! I totally forgot I had one of those! I had the little dump trailer with it too!
I can still hear the "PEW EW PEW!"
ElvisArcher t1_j9wi2ti wrote
My parents had that exact same end table, and a sofa with an eerily similar pattern.

I had one of those. Ha ha

I wanted one of these so… badly. My friend had one and it was like a rabid Wiggums-esque crack head for it every time we played at his house.
TomBug68 t1_j9wtkz9 wrote
My grandparents’ house had that same pine paneling, brown plaid sofa, and early American side table. I think they’re probably still there
jar1967 t1_j9wvmg9 wrote
I had one😁
spasske t1_j9wy22k wrote
Nerds appreciated that you had to “program” it to do a series of movements including distance and degrees turned. The trailer attachment was awesome.

I remember that thing. Wonder what ever became of mine.

Do you still have it? If so, totally unrelated, will you marry me briefly without a prenup?

Shitty. Says more about her than you, but still sucks.

LOL ... nailed it! Thank goodness the future didn't bring us all those futuristic sounds from back then, though just about every appliance in my house makes SOME kind of noise now.

HA! Great taste in interior deco!

"rabid Wiggums-esque crack head" OMG I can completely picture this!! HAHA

Funny story, the house where this pic was taken has been, perhaps unsurprisingly, updated and based on Zillow photos I can confirm, none of what was there remains.

HA! It was my oldest brother's and if he kept a fraction of the crap/toys he bought back in the day he'd be so stoked now in retirement! He's the one you want to marry ... but there's not even a Big Trak in it for you, so...

I wanted one for a few years before I finally got it for Christmas. I loved that thing. It just looked cool. I would spend so much time programming it, letting it run, then keep adjusting the program in order to get it just right.
mdjmd73 t1_j9yewr1 wrote
Hah! I had one of those. And our living room was wood paneled too. 😁👊
ElvisArcher t1_j9ylqkg wrote
Indeed.
The wood paneling ...wow. Ours was a bit lower rent than the paneling I see in your picture ... but to go with it, we had wall-to-wall shag carpet. Literally everywhere except the kitchen and bathrooms. A thick pair of socks in the winter, and the whole house was an experiment in static electricity. Good times.
Thanks for sharing!

HA! I had completely forgotten about until the photo was sent to me and weirdly, my memory was of playing with it at my grandparents house, not mine/my parents (pictured).

I remember this house where we lived in NJ had two cedar-lined closets, too, which I thought was so odd.
mySleepingDogsLie OP t1_ja09xjd wrote
I suspect my brother spent a fair chunk of time with it (he's 15 years older than I am, so he didn't live with us when this was taken) though I definitely commandeered it when he brought it over.
