Back when a 15 year old could afford a pack of smokes.

89 cents a pack at the Amoco near my house about 1980. Weirdly the attendant also sold weed at 20 an eighth and 40 years later the low end price at my local dispensary is still 20 bucks except the bag isn’t covered in grease and smelling like gasoline.

When my mom was 8 she would go buy smokes saying it was for my granddad, probably only cost a couple dollars, crazy how much shit has changed

My dad said that when he arrived in this country in 1985 at 18 a pack of Marlboro red costed him around $2.00 - $2.50 in new york

My mom would have been 8 in the early 1970s, so it was probably even less

The vest is cool and all, but those dark orange corduroys! Ooooooooooh! Also her striped sweater is pretty dope. Well dressed couple. Top notch hairstyles. Nice Datsun in the background, not to mention the red Vega, and a ten speed bike to bring home the flavor of the era. 10/10.

Are they still together?

No they’re not… quick story time. She’s became a nurse, and he became a Marine. They had me at 16 and I was given up for adoption. I found them both once I turned 18, and this is one of only 2 existing photos of them, so it’s special to me.

Idk why, but dad definitely gives me "bad boy" signals.

Do you have a good relationship with them?

CommanderAmander OP t1_ja9wthe wrote

He definitely was a “bad boy” lol. They didn’t raise me- they became pregnant with me later this same year and I was given up for adoption. I found them when I was 18, she ended up becoming a nurse and he was a Marine. I don’t have a relationship with my bio mom anymore, but I still talk to my dad regularly. He turned into a great dude.

He probably regrets this but realized that 15/16 old kids cannot take care of a child. Glad that your dad became a great guy.

I was ten years old in 1980 and I knew that smoking was bad for your health. At the age of 10 I knew not to smoke.

CommanderAmander OP t1_ja9k7g1 wrote

Well he hasn’t smoked in years, so no need to to judge based on what he did at 15. Lighten up buddy. It’s a fun post.
