Best they can do is widen the turnpike extension which feeds into the same number of lanes it is now sorry

I honestly wish they'd extend NLR into the Ironbound (I know, fantasy), and then it could hook up to HBLR to the east. It'd provide way more local access since PATH does not...at least not in Newark.

This is a no brainer. Should have happened ages ago, along with PATH service to the airport and beyond. The PATH or the NLR could quite literally continue down McCarter to the old Raritan Valley line in Elizabeth, Roselle/Roselle Park and connect to NJ transit in Cranford, or follow the industrial line in Linden near the oil refinery and travel either to Staten Island or in the other direction towards Cranford and hit those same communities listed. This state could have much better connectivity if they would only invest in expansion.

Those are CNJ tracks not RVL , the line used to cross over the Newark Bay and terminate at Liberty State Park. I'm disappointed with the lack of movement on addressing Urban Jersey connectivity and mobility issues.... The roads are back to there pre-pandemic gridlock state and NJT has done nothing to advance the 9 proposed rail projects in the state. Even Amtrak under trump advanced hundreds of small and large projects to the point of being funded and ready to go under Biden... Why hasn't Murphy done that? And why is there a transit gap between Urban Jersey & Staten Island.

Yes thank you for that correction. Totally agree!

I would love it too but ideally it would be under Market Street, which is likely way too expensive.
Nexis4Jersey t1_izkiuyk wrote
It could be cut and cover, which is cheaper and faster to build as it would be closer to the surface.
66nexus OP t1_izkgeia wrote
Agreed! And an elevated line would require too much 'rearranging' I think.
Newarkguy1836 t1_izrbmqj wrote
Not really. Market st has metal light posts , no pole lines & wires. Same for Raymond Blvd. The main killer is replacing the river bridges. The passaic river bridge is missing the swing span, the Hackensack bridge is completely gone. Just concrete piers.

It makes perfect sense but as I stated above, New Jersey's only interested in transportation serving New York City.

They should extend HBLR into the Ironbound, although I would rather have the high speed and high frequency Path. They shouldn't develop Kearny Point for anything other than industrial use, it doesn't make sense for people to live there.

Should be extended throught out Newark including all the wards.

A Springfield Ave. corridor would be awesome.
Newarkguy1836 t1_izraz2a wrote
Will never happen. New Jersey is a state that ignores and hates its largest city and insists on worshiping New York and Philadelphia. You can drive the NJ turnpike from Delaware to Exit 14 and you will never see the name Newark on the control cities header sign. But if you drive south on the turnpike you see constantly the names Trenton and Camden even though the turnpike misses these two cities by over 5 miles to the east! New Jersey's only interested in serving New York and Philadelphia. And besides, the article is wrong. Most of the right way is gone in the Ironbound between the old Ballantine Factory on ferry and Jackson Street

Idk about Philly because most of South Jersey is neglected...
Newarkguy1836 t1_j02skq2 wrote
There is a reference to Philadelphia on the Garden State Parkway Southbound in Woodbridge or Metuchen just before the exit take you to Turnpike interchange 11. South on the turnpike 30 mention of Philadelphia until you reach what used to be the Pennsylvania Turnpike extension which is now the new 95 South. That's where Philly references appear. It's been a painful years but last I remember most control City Signs continue to say Del Memorial Bridge or Camden. NB on 95 now says "New York" as of new signage.

As much of a pipe dream that it is, it would be phenomenal.
ahtasva t1_iznbx2q wrote
Is there an estimate for how much this would cost?
Nexis4Jersey t1_izobe1v wrote
Probably 2-3 billion, this would require 2 movable bridges, elevated guide way and a tunneled section will stations.
ahtasva t1_izs47jn wrote
Does not seem like a bad deal considering the amount of under utilizes real estate it would open up for higher /better use. At the rate we are printing money; this is a drop in the ocean 😋
naglephoto t1_izx85uq wrote
Nah the state’s priority is to spend like $10.7 Billion widening the Turnpike extension through the middle of JC
Aggravating_Rise_179 t1_izk0rbq wrote
This should be a damn priority.... but nope, we are just going to expand the highway that wont actually help with congestion.
