If you want to save money, take bus 62 from Penn or Go28 from Broad for just $1.60 instead of $8 for the monorail

Between the terminals and terminal parking lots, yes.

To Amtrak / NJ Transit, no.

Edit: If taking a NJ transit train to/from EWR, the AirTrain price is included in your NJ Transit ticket, scan the QR code to open the gate. Not sure if Amtrak is the same way.

AirTran is super convenient from what I’ve heard. One stop from Newark Penn takes you to Airport Station and then you hop on the AirTrain. I believe it’s $8 for the AirTrain, they’ll add it to the price of your NJ Transit ticket

I second taking the 62 or Go28 bus if feasible. Much cheaper than the AirTrain, and they're frequent (every 15 minutes weekday for 62 line, 20 minute trip from Newark Penn to terminal, which is likely faster than NJT train to AirTrain).

It’s free within the airport to ride all day, and fun to do while waiting to pick someone up. It’s $8 on top of a one-way train ticket to or from the airport rail station. The train tickets to that station automatically include the AirTrain fare as there is literally nowhere else to go since they purposely did not make street access to that station other than an emergency access road

The Airtrain is technically free when taken between the terminals and parking lots, but the cost of taking the Airtrain is included when you buy an NJ Transit train ticket to and from the EWR NEC station. Auto owners "pay" for the Airtrain by paying for parking at airport parking lots and garages.
