Newark doesn't have much to offer that JC doesn't have.
Newark and JC are in the top 5 least car dependent cities in America, but you wouldn't know it walking around in Newark. Jersey City on the other hand is pretty walkable downtown with a pedestrian plaza (definitely not perfect by any means). Newark's downtown is barely open at night.

JC has no equal to NJPAC, Prudential Center, our art Museum, Essex County Parks & the Ironbound.
Grove Street in JC is nice , but it’s mostly less cool versions of stuff that’s in Manhattan and Brooklyn.
SyndicalistCPA t1_j8iasej wrote
It doesn't need an equal to that because you can just take the PATH over to Newark for one day. Or the PATH to NYC.
Downtown JC is much more vibrant than the Ironbound, especially nowadays, and I grew up in the Ironbound. Ironbound has better food, especially for the price, but that's about it.

JC, Hoboken, E.NY and the others on the Hudson is dependent on NY where Newark is its own dependent city with it's own style not transplanted NY'ers turning the Hudson into there version of Manhattan/Brooklyn.

Sure, you can think that.

Always thought NDD and the major developers should advertise on the PATH. Something like “If you lived here, you’d have a seat on this train.” Lol

I've been saying they should take the flag off the IDT building and put it somewhere else and put a big neon sign saying "Welcome to Newark" and smaller sign under it saying "Brick City".

JC may be a bit 'nicer' but newark is the better city in my opinion. But i'm probably biased!!

In theory the greater newark convention and visitors Bureau should be filling this need. Attracting visitors and shoppers and entertainment seekers in the region and other states.
They have a several million dollar a year annual recurring budget. Here is their website.

I’ll just take it as a rant because yes it would be nice to see NEWARK read all over but I will say I think NEWARK doesn’t need any advertisements no glitter no glow no signs saying look at me because everyone knows NEWARK is the center of jersey’s universe!!!! We have everything and everything go through us!! Amazon made its way Bunch of movie production studios are contracting and planting their seed in our soil Netflix is on its way here …. I mean Newark is Newark the Brick City!!!!

Everyone’s pissed Newark isn’t advertising itself but what is there to advertise? What is here that isn’t in any other city in Jersey/NY? They should really push the food diversity but again, you can get that elsewhere in NJ. Audible has tried to do it with Broad St Station but until Newark actually gets attractions it’s a useless attempt IMO.

Listen. I want folk to come visit for more than a Devils game at the Prudential and then they promptly leave. However to do that, places need to open and have crap in stock. If they keep having Newark ass hours, nobody is going to want to hang out there.
Coffee shops not open until 9 am (!). Except Dunkin’ is open, but they’re not a local shop. If I’m headed to work, I’ll be late if I get to your shop at 9 am on my way in. Why are you like this?
Bars that don’t open till 6 pm, and have a shitty sign with a dress code that amounts to “don’t be black,” and blasting music at face melting volume at 6 ok. Nobody is getting turnt at 6 pm. Be like normal people and have music at a low-ish volume when the sun is out, and gradually turn it up as the place fills up so people want to dance.
Two examples of several. If we don’t offer something else to do next to the unique and cool stuff we have to offer, nobody is going to hang out for very long once they’re done. JC is a bit of a soulless husk trying to live up to its bigger cousin NYC, but they figured out how to get people to hang out there: actually be open, and cater to everyone and not just office building workers.

These billboards have popped up along the M&E lines in Greater Newark area. ( This photo South Orange station)
Got me thinking....I've never seen Newark advertise itself in JC....in Fact, Newark doesn't exist to anyone looking for travel info in the NJTPK or GSP travel kiosks. But I've seen brochures for Toronto,Montreal,Boston, DC, Philly, Baltimore & of course ..NYC.
Newark needs to step up to the plate & prejucided NJ needs to acknowledge Newark as its flagship city, instead of saying "NJ this, NJ that!"
JERSEY GARDENS MALL at the Mills has a large beautiful "WELCOME TO ELIZABETH" poster.
Newark airports new terminal A has a giant "NJ" "WELCOME TO NJ".
(Maybe this should be under "rant"? LOL) I rest my case.
