When I first went to US for work experience 20 years ago my English was very bad. And one day my manager is telling me that his grandma got shot. I was horrified but he seemed not as freaked out. Only later I understood shot doesn’t mean shot dead. But to this day when I hear shot I think the person is dead.

Their joke was a statement when I made the reply. Obscuring actual facts of the case. The dude shot her, that’s the fact of the matter. Shooting at her feet doesn’t make a difference, she got fragments in her feet. She got shot.
