How should one be listening to a song for the first time? With or without the official video released for it?

I'm about to listen to a new album and I can't seem to decide what to do. Something about this one choice being able to change my entire perception about the song.

I never even think about a video when discovering new music. I almost feel like a crazy person having to say this, but there's a lot to discover about a musician's work by listening to their music. A video is an added layer of interpretation- personally I'd avoid them at first to discover your personal, honest understanding and appreciation.
