I love music. I’m always singing or humming. Making playlists. Mixing. Drumming. I hear music and beats in EVERYTHING. I don’t really play instruments but I gimme 10minutes and I can play the chorus of a song on the piano. I’ve got an extensive Rolodex of music in my head! Sometimes I can see the old iOS feature where you could swipe through albums but it’s my brain. My friends use me as their personal Shazam. All of this cant be for no reason, right? I am having trouble finding a way to put all of this to good use.

is it useless? no. it's amazing!

is it exploitable under capitalism? not sure buddy.

but to me it sounds like you could have a career in music, maybe improvisational, maybe jazz, maybe session work... idk about the options really. but it's not gonna be THIS specific skill. but it's a great skill to have as a musician

Thank you for this perspective! I’m in my senior semesters in college rn but there’s something telling me to go the creative route after I graduate. Like I’m almost needed somewhere? I just don’t know where I’d fit in the scheme of the industry:/

I have the same superpower. For me, I catalog it in my head by artist album and year. I met another guy one time who organized his music by producer and that is what he hears when he listens.

I never tried to make any money, just impress people at bars.

Perhaps you could look into a law firm that will sue others for IP violations, you could identity cases they could pursue. Perhaps get a law degree yourself and make $$$$.

As a walking music library you should look at creating curated playlists. Radio DJ could have been an option in the past. Today, a postcast around your musical knowledge. There is the path in music production but you’ll will need additionnal skills.

Thanks, I’ll keep that in mind! I’m working on the producer bit. So far I can only recognize Leon Thomas, Pharrell and 40. If I’ve heard an artist sing before I can recognize their voice pretty quickly.

It’s just a talent based on a love for different music.

I’m the same way. People turn to me to figure out a song.

No direct job, but it probably means you simply have an ear for music and can do something in music. As a kid I was pretty much the same way, or could play Melodie’s by ear. Now I’m an audio engineer/music producer. So who knows where your golden ears will take you.

I have a knack for making people think I know songs I've never heard before by subconsciously picking up ane lyrical thems and the melodic patterns I can offer fake my way there the second half of the chorus the first time it plays.

That said. Try a service like fiver where people can pay you to be their personal shazam.
