Julie Brown and Downtown Julie Brown hit it big on MTv around the same time. Was there ever a consensus between them for one to just go with the "Downtown" label and the other not?

"Hey Julie, is it cool if I take "Downtown" for myself?"
"Yeah, I don't give a fuck."
"Wubba wubba wubba."
There was something like that with the English actors union? David Tennant said he had to get a different name because of that.
The English actor and comedian Hugh Dennis actually uses his middle name for the same reason.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hugh_Dennis: >Dennis uses his middle name Hugh as his stage name because the actor Peter Dennis was already a member of the performing arts union [Equity](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Equity_(British_trade_union)).[16] He later revealed in a 2016 episode of BBC's [Would I Lie to You?](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Would_I_Lie_to_You%3F_(game_show)) that he had requested to keep his birth name as there was little chance of confusion between the two actors due to their age difference. Equity told him that this would normally have been allowed, but advised against it as Peter Dennis was the chair of the union's naming committee at the time.[17]
Michael Keaton’s real name is Michael Douglas. There was already a Michael Douglas registered with the Screen Actors Guild so he picked a name out of a phonebook (so the story goes at least)
Julie Brown of "Earth Girls Are Easy" and "The Homecoming Queen’s Got a Gun" was making records for years before Downtown Julie Brown came on the scene.
To what is this in reference? I haven’t read nor heard anything about the Julie Browns in decades, since when I was still in high school.
I also always wanted to know how both Dr. Dre's handled things.
>To what is this in reference?
General curiosity and lack of a definitive answer.
Ah. As an aside, it got me looking up past MTV names, including Kurt Loder, which brought up a mock MTV News piece of him covering the then-missing Yellowjackets.
One had a Lover and the other got a Dogg.

Isn't there a law/rule in the screen guild union (or whatever) that actors can't have the same name? A number of actors have to switch or change their names up because of that. Might be wrong but I'm pretty sure there's like no choice there, it's more than just a branding thing.
If that's the case, then JB "took" the name before DJB had the chance.
DJB sounds cooler anyways.
