I have noticed that some songs that I listen to can change my mood pretty quick. Why does listening to a song effect the brain so much?

I just find it amazing that music has such an impact on people. Just as Stevie Wonder said in Sir Duke, music is an world within it self, with a language we all understand

A good example for me, I had exited a relationship a year or so before, but “lose somebody” by kygo and one republic came on. I had never heard it before. Had no clue what it was about, but the intro piano had me welling up.
There’s raw emotion in music. And I literally can’t explain it.

Same with visual art. Or a great poem, novel. Art

I feel as it’s like dreaming, scientists know that it happens but have no clue why

Well, it's difficult to explain why different artforms, in general, move us. It's not just music, of course. For others, it may be film, novels, poems, fashion, etc. At the end of day, these artforms are truly unique (and often beautiful) expressions of our creativity and imagination. We're drawn to the greatest artists and creative individuals probably because of 1) admiration and 2) we somehow relate to their works of art.

I feel that the human nature of being drawn to creative things and ideas is a part of it

I don’t know the psychological reasoning behind it.
But I have written songs that have made girls cry when listening.
I think it’s just relatability. If something in the music or lyrics resonates with them on a personal level it makes you feel some type of way.
Sometimes a beautiful chord progression will give me goose bumps, or make me think of my dad etc
I’ve definitely cried listening to a song, before words even start.
