As someone who spend his days trying to discover new artists, Spotify is your best friends!

- Spotify Playlists: good to have a "global" view of any genre

- Songs/Artists radio (right click on a song or artist -> "Go to song/artist radio"): recommends you songs you know AND songs you've never heard in the same style of the song/artists you picked

- Latest releases: listening to latest released albums gives a good idea of what is new in any genre

- Daily mixes, "genre" mixes, "mood" mixes, "decades" mixes... All these custom made playlists are mixing both songs you listen to and recommended songs (but mostly ones you know, ngl)

- Discover Weekly: only things you've never heard of

- Similar artists: list of similar artists on any artist's profile

- Featurings: if you listen to a lot of feats, just go listen to the all the artists featured

The key is curiosity! The more different artists you listen to, the better it gets.

i will put on an album from a band i like when Im at work and let it finish and start autoplaying similar artists and then if anything ever makes me look up or do a mental “double take”, i will hit the little heart and add it to my favorites, then just listen back to my favorites playlist from time to time and remember “oh yeah i liked this track” and then I’ll check out one of that band’s albums and if I like that then I have found a new band I like.

Youtube gets pretty good at recommendations also. I also have a Facebook group I started years ago and I got couple good recommends from here.

Going out to shows. Talking with people helps.

This is probably extremely Boomer of me but I like reading music sites. Pitchfork, Stereogum, Paste, etc. AllMusic kind of feels like a dinosaur but it's a great place to really dig into an artist's catalog and see related artists, etc..

I like Spotify lists but I feel they get a little samey sometimes. But I like the site Every Noise At Once for getting deep dives into different, often pretty random, genres on Spotify.

RateYourMusic, I think their entire system is built for discovering new music. Just remember to watch out for snobs :P
