Not sure about overrated for a few of your choices, overplayed possibly but you get 100% on seven nation army

I like Radiohead, but I've never understood what's so great about Creep. Every single song on their next two albums is better.

I wouldn't say the Weight is overrated, I'd say it's over played. The Band has an amazing catalog but (in my region at least), that's the only song of theirs they play anymore (which is a shame).

Now CCR's Proud Mary or Willie and the Poor Boys? Never understood the appeal of those songs at all. CCR has at least 20 songs that are far superior.

Same thing with Creep. Just overplayed on the radio because it was their most accessible song.

Hard agree on everything on your list, except I would say that 7 Nation Army is probably more overplayed than overrated. It isn't even the best song in that album but it was a fine enough song until it was played at every single sporting event for the last 20 years.

I'd add to your list Imagine by John Lennon. The lyrics are so bad I think even 14 year old internet edgelords who make up songs for tiktok would be embarrassed to write them. It's an appalling song not even fit to be a Beatles b-side (and I don't really like the Beatles).

Acadian Driftwood might be my favorite song by The Band

I went on a big Band kick about a decade ago, listened to their whole catalog. Was honestly shocked at how many songs I'd forgotten about that our local classic rock station used to play but hadn't in decades. There's so much more there than just Crippled Creek and Drove ol' Dixie Down.

Robbie's got some choice solo work too.

There wouldn't be those next two albums without Creep.

Creep was definitely a thing when it came out. And as Patrice O'Neal pointed out, that guitar chugga does something to white people.

Oh yeah, for sure, as a step in their journey, I've got nothing against the song. If it led them to what followed, then I'm in debt to whoever saw merit in it. I'm just saying ... to me it's not surprising to see it on this list.

Were you alive when "Imagine" was released? The song addresses issues and problems that were entrenched in western societies. I have no objection to your disliking the song or the band. I do object to your having declared the lyrics insult as in such an uninsightful way, when it appears as though you have described them as, essentially, stupid junk.

I guess if I had the benefit of living through a time of greed, religious extremism, environmental decline and war the lyrics wouldn't seem so hilariously bad. Oh well, guess I'll never know what that's like...

I think the easy answer is yes to anything that gets played in sporting arenas as PA music

Go listen to Blow Out, it’s definitely better than Creep, and while it still has a bit of ‘old Radiohead’ sound, the song itself is top half of The Bends good

I've listened to the album plenty over the last 30 years and it's still dreadful, I think they were lucky to get a second album, fortunately they blew it out of the galaxy with the bends.

What’s so ‘great’ about Creep is that it’s easily accessible by a large cross-section of society. I don’t think discerning listeners think it’s all that great. The song itself, pretty good and catchy. Several notches down from most of their work. It’s not at the bottom, but probably lowest quarter.

I don’t think Pablo Honey is all that bad in a vacuum. I think it’s like a lot of ‘pretty good’ albums, full of hits and misses.

However…we can agree to disagree on that. I do think Blow Out would have been even better and a standout on The Bends if it had been saved and recorded (possibly minor rework) during that session. Just a hypothetical.

Hhmm you could be right about blow out there actually, Pablo was such a disappointment at the time, creep is great, anyone can play guitar slaps, blow out with a bit of work as you suggest could fit nicely on the bends but it's a very average album overall, I put off buying the bends for months as I was very wary about it, luckily one of my mates played it to me and showed me how wrong I was.

They do have much better songs...but I never would have heard any of them if it weren't for Seven Nation Army...just being honest. That song changed my life, honestly.
