never buying from KDBFans or DHL ever again

im just really upset that i got hit with a 53$cad bill on a 250$ order that also got taxed and shipped the shit out of it, like im not mad that i had to pay an extra 53$ im upset that they didnt have the decency to tell me before hand. and the support person just made excuses for the outrageous duty fee. just needed to complain a little.

the Key Company
Omega keys
and Drop
were all good company's and i would recommend you buy from them, but stay away from KDB and DHL as they have vary poor marketing practices.

Isn’t this more of a Canada issue than kbdfans. DHL almost always charges duty fees for oversea shipment to Canada.

less of an issue with the price and more that they didn't tell me, they say they dont know the prices but im not the first person in the world to buy in canada, they can tell me what it costs before they ship it but instead they make you pay after so if u return it your still losing money

The fees from DHL are set by DHL and CBSA - until KBDFans hires a brokerage agent for Canada and takes on that added cost, it’s intrinsic risk when importing items into the country.

If you don’t want to deal with that then go buy from shockport and minokeys, who handle all unexpected duties/brokerage so all you pay is GST/PST.

P.S: if you think DHL fees are bad, make sure you never get anything shipped from UPS 😬

Thanks for the suggestion ill check them put on my second build, and yea I know they KDB doesn't have much control but I wish they were more honest about it is all

That's a DHL thing. I never ever ship with DHL, I always ask anybody outside of Canada to ship with their national postal service and to put in a request to hand it off to Canada Post once it arrives in Canada. Much fairer duty fees and none of the ridiculous markups the other courier services have (DHL is the worst one though).

As others have mentioned KBDfans is not at fault here as import duties are applicable for any import orders above the customer's country's threshold and it is up to a customer to know their local tax/duty expectations for where they live.

While DHL/FedEx/UPS do charge a fee to process import duties, note that vendors chose to use fast, reliable, and trusted couriers to ship international express packages for a reason as they want customers to get their packages timely and in good working condition.

And to note, a common overlooked thing by most people is a store's terms of service, shipping policy pages or more. KBDfans does list on their terms of service information in section 21 about import duties and international deliveries. This is a good thing to consider going forward when importing items from any vendor in any industry.

Yeah being Canadian is rough sometimes with import fees. I remember buying $100 keycaps from the US, and having to pay $30 for duties at Canada post. I still have a fairly positive opinion on DHL though because they’ve always delivered extremely fast internationally. Like sometimes sometimes within the next day or two from China.

I got caught with that too on the cannonkeys bogo keycaps. Keycaps were $80usd + 40usd shipping then got hit with $35 DHL fees. Never ordering from across the border again. Will be giving my business to canadian vendors such as Ashkeebs

For what it's worth, there are some services like Shippsy that are better for cross border shopping - they give you an address in Washington or New York, you pay less in shipping, and they charge $7 CAD (plus whatever CBSA asks for) in order to properly import it over the border to a local warehouse.

Given how DHL charges $15-20 even if no taxes are due, it can make a world of difference, especially for crazy deals like Cannonkeys Bogo.

I've ordered from drop, omega keys, and the key company and had zero issue, one comment also said that when he buys stuff from KDB he gets it sent outside of Canada then shipped to him after and the shipping costs are cheaper, its DHL price spiking for nr, and KDB could have at least let me know about the extra fees

I've been hit with import fees on Drop orders too sometimes. You can try to order from the KBDFans Aliexpress store instead, I haven't been hit by import taxes on orders from Aliexpress yet (I'm in BC). Though shipping is a lot slower

Customs duties are unavoidable unless they undervalue the shipment but they could have offered cheaper shipping rates. It seems like these companies are charging the standard rate to customers. I'm sure these keyboard vendors that are having big sale volumes get a very good discount from courier companies like DHL or FedEx.

I have bought expensive things worth thousands of dollars shipped with DHL without any duties. It seems to be more of a Canada thing. In fact I have only paid once for duties over 12 years ago with fedex. Stores do not know the duties. It is set by the shipper along with your country.
