In the market for a new budget board. And I like this layout a lot. Is NuPhy a good brand?

Hey there! I am a content creator, and Nuphy sent it to get my impressions. For transparency, the white version was given to me for free, but I bought my own (in black) when pre-orders went live because I'm a fan of their products.

Cool! What do you think of the Rose Glacier switches?

The Halo series has better build quality than the Air series, in my opinion, but the Air is ultimately more portable due to trading off a smaller battery for total package weight.
You'll have more options with modding the Halo because it's more straightforward to take apart than the Air. The Halo has better switches IMO and sounds better, too out of the box if that's your thing.

I have BBK on my other keyboard, and I am pleasantly surprised by the RG in my first experience using them for office-type work.

Oh I would love to hear what you find better/worse/different about those two switches! I'm debating between them myself.

I'm a semi newbie in this so excuse my ignorance here. But I noticed the switches have names like "baby" kangaroos. Are these a smaller switch? Would this board be compatible with something like the Alpacca V2s?
mcaputo023 OP t1_iwwjhvc wrote
No need to apologize because I won't pretend to be an expert myself and we're always learning in one context or another. 🤝
BBKs are normal mechanical keyboard switches with a shorter travel distance of 3.4mm.
Having never used the Alpacca v2, both are 5-pin, but it appears that the Alpacca housings are opaque (and not clear), meaning that you'll lose out on the RGBs at the switch location.
Here's a picture of the Halo 65 with all the switches pulled. You'll see a north-side RGB at each switch location that the Alpacas would presumably block.

Thank you that was a super helpful resonse!

I will post more in a couple hours as I bang out a few emails

Definitely compatible with Alpaca's. I've tried a couple of switches with the same coloured housing and it honestly doesn't effect the rgb much at all
Top_Recognition_1513 t1_iwwqtql wrote
Yup! The build quality, the sound, the unique switch options and great keycaps I find are all superior to the equally priced keychrons/glorious keyboards. The only hiccup is no Via/qmk support
Top_Recognition_1513 t1_iwwr0j1 wrote
RG's have a larger tactile bump than the BBKs, so in turn they kind of feel a bit heavier because of that bump, but I honestly find them more satisfying to press than the BBKs

Alright. Purchased. Now we wait. Got the baby raccoons to try them out but will probably swap in alpacas.

Oh nice, and now I know this, too!

Bruuh Nuphy has been killing it with these keebs. I got the Air75 and the Halo65 and the build quality is really good. Planning on getting the Halo90 when it drops with them new BBRs for my wife.
mcaputo023 OP t1_ix01b5h wrote
I didn't know about the Halo90 until last night. RIP my credit card.

Yeah, Nuphy has been working on some keebs that are going to leave me broke
_potaTARDIS_ t1_ixhvstp wrote
keyaps i think are vastly underrepresented when talking about nuphy products. they've been KILLING it in that department. i think i haven't felt a better keycap set than the ones on my air75 and that's not hyperbole. i love love love their keycaps and cant wait to get my hands on a halo series to see how they do high profile.

Wait, how do you have this? I thought pre orders were still open?
