I lubed my first board with this. It was a mistake. It still works and it sounds good but there is like a weird sticky resistance feel in the switch. I still use it for stabs on cheap builds but over all just stay away from it. This stuff does however work very well around the house for door hinges, cabinet rails, I just used it on my clothes dryer to remove a bad squeak. Amazing for things like that, not so much on keyboards.

Thank you! i have another question

Can i lube the stabs with krytox or do i need a thicker lube for the stabs?

I like krytox 205 for stabs and switches. It's a perfect lube for that. But I personally like to go thicker on the wire, Id use a dielectric grease like the one you posted just on the wire and no where else.

Do i need to lube my switches every year or how often do i need to do it?

Shiba_Fett t1_je24kok wrote

Just once. Its not like a car, after you lube them it should last the life of the keyboard.

alexotos has a great video on youtube.

you can use krytox if you don't want to buy extra lube for stabs. You could also use dielectric. Just dip the ends of the wire and you're good.

PepeGodzilla t1_jdz102g wrote

Both, krytox and tribosys are 6-15€ dependent on the quantity.

Dielectric grease is excellent for stabs but way too thick for switches. It'll stick.

Excellent for stab wires … you don’t want to use it on the stems for the same reason you don’t want to use it on switches.

Check CandyKeys.com for Tribosys, get 3203 for tactiles and 3204 for linears

Short answer, yes

Long answer, is best that you don't, krytox is highly recommended, this lube is perfectly fine for stabs, but is a bit thick for switches and they might get stuck, if you can't buy krytox try a bit of liquid lube

Can you expand on why “yes” is a valid answer?

d3facult_ t1_jdzk6sa wrote

Can doesn’t mean should

SheeBang_UniCron t1_jdzkkfj wrote

That’s a useless answer though (assuming the person I replied to is thinking the same as you) because that doesn’t address what OP is really asking.

d3facult_ t1_je1d6pp wrote

While yes he can lube switches with it, he should just get Krytox instead. Makes more sense now?

SheeBang_UniCron t1_je30fd0 wrote

If OP attached a photo of vegetable oil instead of dielectric grease, replying with “could but shouldn’t” is as absurd.

1

d3facult_ t1_je3hncd wrote

Well that’s different cause you definitely can lube with superlube but vegetable oil definitely can’t used as a lube

LE1NAD7 t1_je0mydw wrote

Because it depends on how heavy the switch is and how much op uses, the heavier the switch the less chance of it getting stuck, i guess i should have explained, but it was late

SheeBang_UniCron t1_je0ud6n wrote

Are you telling me that it's ok for someone to buy and use dielectric grease to lube their switch provided the springs are heavy enough? Isn't that just bad advice?

Call tom-pac, I was using three different types of cryotox ( very expensive) they were able to give me direct crossover

Nintendo_US t1_jec6z3p wrote

People are gonna tell you no, but there was a post a few years ago where someone did an actual comparison over short and long term use and found that there was virtually no difference to krytox when applied correctly. Anyone who's tried it that says otherwise either used too much or mistakingly used the wrong formula. Also, I see someone said you only have to lube once, and while I think it's excessive to do so, if you want your board to be absolutely perfectly tuned forever, you will need to re-lube every 2-3 years, but it really isn't worth the effort.

It's too thick for tactile, and even too thick for many linear. Do that only for a cheap build or experiment on guetto linear switch (ex : White Alps linearized with opposite leaf removed).

Also, it will catch a lot of dust.

I do have a white AEK with linear dampened and it's good for a 20 bucks build.
