I just build my keychron q1 v2 and while I know it's not gonna be the last board I build in the next year, I feel no need to go out and pay 500 dollars for a board excluding switches, keycaps and stabs.

100%. I've got three Q-series builds (one for each of my three machines). Each one different, each one personalized, and each one so much fun to type on. I feel no need to spend $500 on a keyboard, either. A $190 barebones board and $100 worth of switches and keycaps are more than satisfactory for me. It's not a competition and the only one who uses them is me anyway, so I only need to make myself happy and no one else.
I think my Q12 might be the most I've spent on one so far, I couldn't get a barebones since I bought on the day it was announced, so it was $205 for the keyboard, $50 for caps and I think around $40 for a set of switches. I'll keep the original switches and keycaps as spares just in case.
