How’d you get on the other side of the barriers!? So sketchy.

I don't get it... Would someone mind explaining?

Sure! This Walmart parking lot stop sign in Auburn has been knocked over a few hundred times (might be an exaggeration but might be close) by patrons in motor vehicles over the past couple years. Poor fucking thing can’t catch a break!

I'd love to check this out, but I have zero reason to visit Auburn, besides this pole.

i had nothing to do a few weekends ago, and came this close to just hopping in the car and driving to the auburn walmart to finally lay eyes on this menace.

OP, you're gonna have to stand out there with some airport traffic wands to help guide traffic.

This pole should have a twitter account.

When the weather is warm enough somebody's got to get out there in a bikini and stripper heels for a proper pole photoshoot. This is a gender neutral, size neutral, and hairiness neutral assignment by the way. Let your creative spirit soar.

I am unfamiliar with the pole. What is the story here?

I was just thinking of all the pictures that are gonna flood this subreddit of people visiting this pole, lmao.

I want to visit, but I'm terrified of being sucked into whatever vortex that surrounds that sign

Seems dangerous, like someone could sideswipe you at any moment. It’s like those people who take pictures at the Grand Canyon with one foot hanging over the edge

I live in the area and frequent that walmart, have even witnessed a couple of the collisions these piles have been in. It almost feels strange to me that some people actually would set out to come see it...

That pole going to get more visitors than Paul Bunyan in Bangor. That not even including the people who drop in and hit the pole

It's much more enjoyable than the mushroom pics, imo.

We're pretty seasonal round here. We have mushroom season, tick season, it so cold season, it's too hot season, hey I'm traveling to Maine can you help me plan my vacation season, and on and on and on

The did anyone see those weird lights in the sky, and why are there jets flying in Portland, and license plate ones are year round events. Although I suppose the vacation one could be included here too.

Technically, I could still ignore the pole since the festival is in Lisbon. Though I would have to check out L/A after thinking a bit. A buddy of mine from college grew up in Lewiston and it is a must see because of that.

I honestly wish I could. I have no idea why those particular posts are such magnets for cars. There doesn't seem to be any constant that I can think of other than those poles. It baffles me to this day.

The pole needs two more cement barriers. The next thing should be a little guard shack with a guy in it that comes out and waves you on when it's safe to go. I like how things like this become iconic and develop a sort of reputation. Anyone know of any other examples of things like this?

That type of balustrade is too low to be obvious from inside a typical vehicle, esp when driven by a a distracted person… they always have them around gas pumps, and I can’t remember how many people hit them while I was working at one, but it was a lot! Pay attention drivers, they are there to keep you from damaging more important property than your own vehicle- like pedestrians, gas pumps, or other parked cars…

GoArmyNG t1_j9hhhdm wrote

I did bump one of those at a gas station while backing out of a spot by the door. It was shorter and narrower than my tailgate. I couldn't see it behind me at all. I thought I had an extra 6 inches, which I would have, if the post wasn't there.... but, at the end of the day, it didn't damage my truck or the post so who cares? Lol

Alternative_Sort_404 t1_j9hj1qu wrote

Yeah, I’ve seen people ruin an entire side of their vehicle because they didn’t know how to get out of a situation once they got into it. Not pretty. But it IS better hitting a traffic control device than another person, tho. Seems like they’d have to be cutting through a parking area to hit that WalMart one to me… but I haven’t visited 🙄

GoArmyNG t1_j9hjiz1 wrote

It's becoming a bit of a tourist attraction and I really really wish it just wouldn't..... it's annoying.... that parking lot gets packed enough as it is..... can I help drive people away? Remember there was a shooting there within the last couple years?
