Duck fat is going to be everyone’s go to. But Butcher Burger is my sleeper pick.

Butcher Burger is good but their take out fries didn’t hit the same as in person :/ maybe reheat in oven is the key?

Wait... are you saying you're ordering trays of fries for takeout?

Texas is the California of the Rockies in New England. Who in their right mind wants to eat cold, soggy, steamed french fries? They're only the best if they're fresh.

Lol when the “from away” xenophobia you grew up with finally starts trolling you all over Reddit…

I’m going home to a family cottage that was built in 1914 and I don’t have the room or supplies for a deep fryer. So, yeah, I’m going to pickup somewhere. I’m harvesting the mussels myself, but the oven is an old fashioned “cook stove” that honestly doesn’t work great for high temps. So, yes, ordering out.

That very possibly true, but I hear some restaurants cater, so the question pretty much stands. Also open to food truck suggestions.

A little out of the way so may not be suitable, there’s a French fries place in the Maine Mall, and quite honestly I think they are pretty good. Maybe relative to how hungry I am, but maybe worth a try.

Your commitment to arguing with me is asinine. That does not change the fact that relying on the generosity of others sharing their experience with me helps cull a list of places I might want to then check and see whether or not they cater? Or offer catering services through a third party? Like for pop-ups? And many, many (but not all) restaurants in Portland do cater. I used to work in the industry, and this really was not an uncommon thing for people to ask about…

Oven fries! 450 Ma!

Anything you buy will suck in less than 5 minutes unless it's been dredged with flour and fried crispy. But then you're into potato tempura territory

Make your own fries man. Not hard and very tasty. Cut your potatoes and soak them in water for a while. Drain and rinse. Pat dry woth paper towels. Fry at 350 until soft and starting to brown a bit. Put them on a sheet pan. Freeze them. Once frozen remove and fry at 375 until golden brown. You won't regret this.

Duck Fat does them so well, the hype is pretty legit. I honestly have only been to the restaurant once, but I get them at Oxbow nearly every time I'm there. So good.

Frying Dutchman is supposed to be great but I haven't tried them yet. The one time I went they were closed for like a week randomly.

went to duckfat. Precut frozen fries, not only not great, really not very good at all.

What the heck. Then what do you think all this hype is about? It has my husband and I wishing we picked DF last anniversary!

We got til April. Best HANDCUT fries in your opinion??

trucks_guns_n_beer t1_j8rcv18 wrote

I'm not sure about the hype. I've watched people on tv shows all rave about it, and there were huge lines last summer when we first attempted to go. I got the classic poutine. the gravy was just out o' the can brown liquid, the cheese curds weren't even "squeaky". The fries were the most underwhelming part!

We did got to "the little tap house" nearby. Great poutine, and my son claims "the worlds best grilled cheese"! Had a sweet drink selection also. Real close to the portland by the bay hotel.

Hard disagree, I went to duckfat back in November. Best poutine I've had period. And I've been all across this state and even through Canada having Poutine everywhere. The fries are amazing.
