I'm not a fucking ableist. Get that notion out of your god damn motherfucking head. At this point you're using the word ableist as a weapon against people you don't agree with. You ever hear the saying "Sticks and Stones can break my bones but words can never hurt me?" People who let words hurt them are letting the words hurt them, they can ignore it and eventually the word loses it's meaning. You just want to keep perpetually giving those words their meaning. You're arming the people you're fighting against by giving them weapons that you can choose to nullify. And at this point my original comment stands, you're a fucking keyboard warrior who needs to grow the fuck up and understand this shit. I am not disparaging the differently abled, you are. By connecting a word to them you yourself are asigning a meaning to it to harm them.

Edit: The other person blocked me however I was able to read the comment they replied with. To which I shall use the following below as a reply.

Firstly, I didn't do the "this person needs help" reddit thing, someone else must've or you could be lying about that altogether. Either way it doesn't matter as you have shown you'd rather block someone and scream they're an Ableist repeatedly rather than actually have a civil discussion. That screams that you're either losing the argument in your own mind, or that you've given up which is the same as admitting defeat.

Secondly: You give power to the words as weapons by giving them meaning. You and others linking those words to that meaning is what keeps them being bad words. You can let go and everything will settle out eventually. You are enabling the use of the words to hurt others by constantly telling people to not use the words because they're derogatory towards certain groups of people. If you give the words no meaning they cannot hurt people.

Thirdly: This is Maine honey, where words like Retard, Queer, and Moron alongside many other words that people deem offensive are still used because their meaning up here is not offensive nor used in an offensive way. Example: I'm driving in my car and see a elephant crossing the road I might say "well that was wicked Queer" now why can I say that? Because up here Queer isn't a sexual term, it still holds it's original meaning of Odd or Strange.

Fourthly: You keep pushing the label of Ableist onto people who you disagree with, people who aren't using the word in an offensive manner. I get it you want to be super PC and correct everyone so they can be PC aswell, but you end up looking like a massive fucking douche much like PC Principal on South Park.

Fifthly: How the fuck can someone who has multiple Disabilities and lives off Disability (SSI) be fucking Ableist? I'm not going to give too much information on myself but you keep shoving a label onto me that just slides right the fuck off if you actually knew me.

Sixthly: Since this arguement is clearly over since you decided to block me, I'd like to make a statement to everyone who decides to read this shitshow of a comment chain. I myself am Disabled, I live off Disability, I cannot function enough to have a job.The claims this person has made to me lying about being disabled are just bullshit. They're reading a book by it's cover and using it as the basis for the whole person. People are complex and you cannot determine much about a person just based off of a small interaction like here on reddit. Definitely not enough to Claim someone is an Ableist, nor enough to claim they are "piss-poor at using English" and at that point aren't they the one being Ableist for shitting on someone with a disability?

You're so defensive about asserting you're not an ableist that you resorted to the old "send an automated Reddit message telling your opponent to get help" tactic. Which tells me you're fighting a losing battle and the losing part is on your end.

Whether you like it or not, the R slur has an accepted meaning within society, and that meaning just so happens to be a derogatory one as it pertains to the disabled--just as the word "ableist" has an accepted meaning within society that just so happens to mean "derogatory towards the disabled". Suck it up.

Take it or leave it. Either way, you've already lost the argument so I see no reason to continue further. Have fun with your deluded beliefs.

This is in no way accurate in 2023.

It is very much accurate. But I guess that depends on if you live in Southern Maine or the rest Maine. If you're exclusively in Southern Maine then yeah you'd think it's not accurate. But the rest of Maine? It's very accurate
