This... does not sound real.

Almost the alter to a post made in the sub earlier.

The mental torture previous relationships/breakups have put me through leads me to believe this is real. The GF clearly has serious issues herself, and this guys issues, combined with the emotional abuse, seem to have driven him off the deep end. I, for one, live in maine. My question is what posts made it seem like he was in maine also. I looked at his post history and didn't see anything.

I want it to be clear that I'm not defending the guy. What he said is very scary. If he would ever actually do any of that or if it was just his darkest emotions coming out, it remains to be seen.

Admittedly, I only quickly perused that OPs profile/posts/comments... What exactly makes you think they're in Maine?

This person needs some serious help, for sure though

In one comment he mentions that he lives 150 miles from her and in another he says he's 3 hours from her. In the quote below he says that she lives in a small rural town in Maine. I suppose he might not live in Maine, but the rape/murder will take place there. >Ik for a fact the sister is the dad's daughter (they look alike) but I also know my ex is his stepdaughter not biological. The mother is his wife. Idk about sex trafficking but I can tell you they live in a small rural town in Maine.

She lives in Maine. Presumably he does too. Ask yourself why you're doing the whataboutism and minimization of a man with explicit plans to rape and kill. You could have kept scrolling, but here you are working on his behalf.

It seems you are sincere in your desire to help. Have you contacted law enforcement? Google search for Maine state law enforcement or even their regional crime bureaus and send them information. Presumably they would be more capable of stopping a violent crime from happening that random Maine-based Redditors.

I'm not dodging anything. I say in my original post that the only details he gives are that she lives in rural Maine and that he lives 150 miles from her. It not enough information to go by, really, but it's all we have. It's up to reddit and law enforcement to get his IP. And to think I'm assuming the worst of someone's intentions when they lay out explicit plans to rape and murder is sick. Someone is in danger and you're here defending the creep.

I could not find any comments of his that made me think he was in Maine, maybe they were removed. However in one of his posts he says he is about 180 miles away from her and that if he drove “up to” her it would be about 3 hours. That would make me think if they are actually in Maine, he’s in the southern part and she’s in more of a northern rural area. But…there’s a lot of those small rural towns up north. I hope he is found wherever he is and nothing happens to her.

Downplaying someone's violent words is indirect defense of those words. Demanding proof that this is in Maine when I explain up front that there is very little detail other than it's in rural Maine is an attempt to invalidate the situation. Your intent may not be nefarious, but the outcome of ignoring the bigger issue to focus on the smaller ones, will be the same. It shows you're not taking it seriously, and this is why so many women die. Calling it hysteria is misogyny in action. You don't have to take any of this seriously, but why keep going? If it's not important to you, keep scrolling.

You're hung up on finding a comment where he says she lives in rural Maine because you refused to take my word for it. The comment is so devoid of detail that it isn't worth posting. If you don't want to be called a minimizer and an apologist, then stop acting like one and move on or do something useful. Women don't need to stroke your ego to prove they don't deserve to be raped and murdered. You can dismiss it as hysteria, but all that shows is that this situation isn't real to you and you don't take it seriously. Please stop wasting my time.

No, have you? He made it clear that the rape/murder will take place at her home in rural Maine. If you're concerned for her safety then do something. Telling me to do more than I'm already doing isn't a good look.

Wtf? No, violence against women is not normalized. If anything, violence against men has been normalized, because they "can take it ". Maybe this poster has asked for help and hasn't gotten it . Not saying their intentions are good or healthy at all, but when people are pushed away when asking for help I don't know what you expect.

With all that said, maybe you should change the post title to "help me find this rape victim and get him some help "

mycatisawhore OP t1_j8xkxk6 wrote

Violence against women is so normalized that you refuse to see it as wrong or preventable as evidenced by your claim that men are the true victims here. Yes, toxic masculinity exists and prevents men from seeking mental help, which then results in women dying. He's a rape victim who plans to rape and kill his ex and you appear to be in support of that with your whataboutism. You can choose to help prevent a murder and get this guy the help he needs or you can keep scrolling, but defending this him is gross.

Your words mean nothing, especially with such a huge accusation and no proof to back it up.

No one's backing up this person, the issue is with having proof and evidence to follow up with. If this person isn't just "blowing smoke" then they absolutely need to be stopped/seek help.

Another poster added important information, a pic (which has since been deleted) and a direct link to the comment you were speaking of. That's proof/evidence that someone can do something with (like law enforcement).

You can attack all the people who want what evidence you have all you want. The fact is, you're making a huge accusation and didn't bother to link the appropriate evidence to back your words up with.

Personally, I think it's good to be looking out for others when you can. Something like the original posters comments/posts do seem alarming and should be brought to the attention of proper authorities. Unfortunately, unless he's made serious threats to her or caused harm, those proper authorities may be limited in what actions they can take until he actually does something. (I could be wrong, I'm not familiar with cyber laws and the likes, definitely not smart enough to be a lawyer)

What asking for proof and evidence does, if nothing else, aids in preventing a "witch hunt" lead by mob justice. If that offends you, you really should evaluate why you brought this to anyone attention in the first place.

Maine is a big place with many scattered towns. I less one of us personally knows the girl or boy involved, what can we do? Did you contact police with evidence? Yes, you, the person who saw and brought this person to the center of attention. (Before many things got deleted from the OPs account). Law enforcement can only do so much to prevent some random unknown anonymous guy from attacking some random unknown anonymous girl.

OP, I am so sorry that you were subject to trolls and harassment for trying to do the right thing. Don't even engage the trolls, they are not worth your response. I do suggest though that you provide as much as this information as you can to the Maine State Police. Please google their contact information and act on it. They will not ignore you. You may save a life. I would take this very seriously. The downside of not doing so could be tragic.
