What’s up with the unneeded white text? It’s covering the description of what makes up the ranking and isn’t even needed lol. Regardless I totally agree and imagine we didn’t make to the top 10 because of our current issues with “forever” chemicals polluting our waters, soils, and wildlife.

Well that’s happening everywhere - we are just the only ones testing for them

Yeah I was actually thinking the same thing as I was writing that but figured it would turn into a rambling post about doing the right thing and being honest with out people lol

Wth is Mississippi so high on this list? I thought it was supposed to be an unbearable shithole of a state?

Based on my Healthcare experience having moved from Vermont, to NH and then Maine... I cannot tbelieve this map.

Why is New Hampshire so much higher than Vermont?

ND as top? Hah. K...
I get the variables that water pollution or the air quality aspect is a scientific measurement with not much debate as to what the numbers give. The social variables are questionable in how they were measured. That social involvement is a funny one to me that prompts more debate as to what that entails than say....air pollution.
Statistics are funny in general.

If housing were affordable the average person would struggle to find valid complaints living in Maine

Right. That's hard to believe. However, I have been to Mississippi three times in the last couple of years. And driving around a lot. I see more confederate flags in Maine than I saw in Mississippi or Louisiana.

Yeah there is nothing to do in North Dakota other than drinking. Just all farmland.

Pretty sure quality of life must be code for boredom factor on this map. Is life in Iowa, Minnesota, the Dakotas and Arkansas really better than Maine? Hell, they don't even have an ocean to stare at?

Mississippi is number 6 lol

Minnesota is the land of 10,000 lakes. Plus they have professional sports teams, world class health care and Ilhan Omar.

That's when I realized the map is kinda bullshit. California is 50? Hawaii is 36? Come on

Mississippi ranks first in poverty and 50th in everything else. This map can’t be right

It’s wealthier.

That’s what I assumed but wealth wasn’t mentioned in the criteria.

Yeah, that would have been my assumption I didn’t see wealth listed in the criteria.

I'm not sure what's worse, Mississippi being in the top ten or the white letters explaining what the map is overlapping the black font that already explains what the map is.
2/10 map

Yeah I agree. But in general, for me, it’s nice to see Maine, Minnesota, Alaska and some other slept on cold states get higher marks than California. It’s hard to breathe without getting trampled on by people or politicians in Cali. Personal experience.
Floperator1492 OP t1_j6b3sig wrote
Yeah there’s some head scratchers, but ME, MN, and NH are better to live than heavily populated and regulated places like Cali or Mass.

I just realized I like this map so much not because of who did good, but who did bad. Suck it Mass!!!… and CT, RI, NJ, and CA… Man I need to learn to be nice again.

I find it interesting that you feel so confident calling Mississippians stupid when it’s one of the Blackest states in the US and one of the poorest. Are poor and Black people just dumb to you?
dontbanmynewaccount t1_j6clb4t wrote
And Minneapolis is way more of a city than Portland is. In fact, Minnesota has a few cities bigger and with more to do than Portland. It really is crazy how closed minded some of these comments are. People really need to live their state every once in awhile and see other ones. Lot of unwarranted Maine-centric circle jerking here.
ColdStocks t1_j6cuu57 wrote

I'm a really outdoorsy person. It is mostly farm land on the eastern side of ND where I live. West side is a bit better because we have Roosevelt national park. Maine is just a state im considering moving to because it seems quiet and its close to the ocean. I'll definitely visit before I make my decision.
SheSellsSeaShells967 t1_j6d38az wrote

And I know nothing about race percentages in most of the states; I was under the impression Mississippi was mostly white. But go ahead, call me racist. Lmao
So touchy about a fuckin joke. As if no one else says states are stupid.

I’ve lived all over when I left for the military. Now that I’m back, I mostly agree with this map. I disagree with the ranking because it’s too close to tell and ND is the least interesting of the Midwest division. But in general it’s accurate. I feel happier, safer and more free in Maine than when I was stationed in FL, NC, WA and HI. Must be the high tree to low population ratio.
