I completely disagree, in that I think both this menorah and that nativity scene were perfectly fine, but I respect your consistency on the topic.

It's a bit of a slippery slope thing for me. Today, it's a Menorah at Portland Town Hall. Tomorrow we elect a pastor as our state governor for no reason other than that person is a religious leader. It doesn't work, there's no political merit there.

The slippery slope fallacy is just that, a fallacy. Our cities and towns are communities of people but also communities of communities. Honoring our Jewish heritage, or celebrating our Christian churches, is good and right, and does not at all mean that our government is operated on religious principles. Besides, I feel like electing a religious fanatic to the governorship of Maine is a little far fetched. Even our right-wing demagogues are quite secular.

I upvoted you. I agree.
I'm just a sucker for a big ol menorah and free gelt wherever I can get it.

Hey, you do you, it just bothers me that the founding fathers gave us this really important warning because they literally lived through this shit and here we are ignoring that warning.

Alright... I'll say the same thing here that I said about the Nativity Scene in Bucksport that got taken down.
A Menorah is a religious symbol. There's a reason we have separation of church and state.
Religion is like a penis. It's fine to have one. It's great to be proud of it, but DO NOT go around cramming it down others' throats. Keep it off of city/state/federal government property like town halls, court houses, etc. If you people want to be festive, hang your lights and your neutral holiday decorations, and then decorate as per your preferred religion in your own home/property.
