Well this is sad and terrible news. It needs a big spotlight - hard to believe it hasn’t been reported before. Do we have any news people in the sub? Also found this https://khn.org/morning-breakout/more-children-died-in-maine-in-2021-than-recorded-before/. 2x the number of kids died from abuse here in 2021 than 2020.

Do you know if there are similar trends in other states for the year? I wonder if kids being cooped up with their abuser during lockdown contributed

I would imagine that's exactly what happened. I'd suspect spousal abuse was a lot higher as well. I remember reading about the rates being really high during another period of time but for the life of me I cannot remember what is was.

I am no longer a teacher, but when schools started shutting down during the lockdown, I worried every day about that very thing.
