I currently work in NH on a medsurg floor and was thinking of relocating to Maine. I thought MMC was a good place to work but I saw that the nurses have been protesting and have had complaints about work conditions there, especially in the ED. (That would be relevant to me because I was considering applying for a float pool position and would probably be sent down there). I was wondering which hospitals you guys work at and/or if you like working there.

I used to work at EMMC. It's a shit show and they have to protest every single bargaining year.

Shit show because of protests or other reasons like patients ratios/management etc? Like I’m used to bad ratios and bad management but how bad is the other place

Bad ratios and bad management, coupled with having to picket to get the patient safety levels they need under contract.

The nurses have unionized at MMC. I don’t know if that would alter your consideration.

I heard they got the union but do you know if that helped? I’ve heard some unions suck and don’t do anything. I heard that it was pushed by a bunch of ED nurses who were hurt at work and complaining of patient ratios 1:6 but at the hospital I work at, it’s 1:10 most of the time since were always in surg. So idk how bad it really is there

My wife works at Maine General, also medsurg. She really likes it they are also very accommodating to work life balance and getting time off on short notice for life events.
