I’m 28, interests are improv, camping, gem hunting, comedy, video games, comedy, mst3k, dnd, sarcasm, cats, spooky ghosts and crypitds. I’m realizing all I do is work and sleep and I’d really like to make some adult friends to do stuff with this summer spring :)

I’d really like to do a group escape room, I’ve done two by myself because I’m sad like that, and I really enjoy them but would definitely prefer to be in a group 😎 (I’m sure the employees were laughing the whole time)

I think there’s a new board game-themed bar in Biddeford; pawn and pint maybe? By blaze?

Do you like board games? Check out Diversions in SoPo. Weekly game nights 5-9, show up anytime, and monthly late-night second Saturday 5-midnight. They also have DnD on other weeknights.

There are local gem hunting clubs you can join. My friends who are in them say there are some older people who are always looking for friends to dig with

I’m following this. 52m looking for new friends as well. Any nature lovers? Beach walkers? Fly fishing folks?

Do you climb or mountain bike?

Rephrased: do you want to climb or mountain bike?

Climbing has a low cost to entry, and is a welcoming and inclusive community.

Mountain biking has a high cost to entry, and is also a welcoming an inclusive community.

If not, check out Jetpack comics down in Rochester nh. Solid tabletop gaming community with an open game room with weekly game nights.

A thousand times yes. I’ve wanted to learn to scuba and mountain climb so it would be awesome to have a community to work with. Thank you for that man :)

I just got a gym membership and clothes today. I’d like to get more active and in shape (i weight 160 soaking wet) I’m planning on doing the Appalachian trail next spring!

Climbing has many different communities and subtypes, so start slow, learn the basics, build strength, technique, and technical knowledge, and figure out what you enjoy. Start with bouldering and top roping, progress to sport, then maybe investigate alpine, ice, and trad(itional) climbing. Gym or outdoor, there’s no wrong answer. You can usually connect with the community at the gym by showing up regularly and getting to know people. It might seem insular at first, but only because rope climbing is so heavily based on trust.

Salt pump in Scarborough is good, as is Indoor Ascent in Dover. Never climbed Evo in Portland, but one of my partners is a setter there, so I’ve been meaning to check it out. Come summertime, it’s all about Rumney.

Did Zack suggest that lol, if not you’re swimming in friends. If you’re into podcast they had one called sleepy cabin, it’s pretty explicit, but if that’s what you like I recommend it, Corey, zach, Chris, and stamper use to live together and it’s cool to hear all the crazy stories

Wow, you have been an excellent source of knowledge and inspiration. I even like that I’m already learning the lingo! I really like that it’s very trust oriented and climbers respect that, makes me feel better. The “I have your back 100% do you have mine” mentally gives a great feeling of teamwork and accomplishment.

I’ll have to check out the indoor place at Portland in a little while after exercising and getting ready :)

May want to be careful fishing with that guy with the username he has. 😁

But seriously Maine has some great fishing. Certainly can be a great way to meet people as well. Good luck to you.

If anyone is gonna teach me to fish who is better then a seasoned crazy sailor! Haha I’ve never tried but I’ve always wanted to, just never knew anything about it or how to get into it

That's the spirit!!

Good luck with it. Fishing is something I enjoy doing from time to time but either I am seriously cursed at it or I really suck at it. Never can even get a bite. But luckily it's something you don't have to be good at to enjoy.

You don’t need to drink alcohol or smoke a bong to be friends with someone. This mentality is why I’d never be friends with you

Pint and The Pawn! I'm thinking about checking it out this weekend as well. If you're into basketball, there's Sunday morning ball at the Biddeford High School Tiger gym. $2 drop in...no ball this Sunday (26th) because there's a band competition.

I [m32] live in Biddeford and have some interest overlap (Pathfinder/DnD, spooky ghosts, cats, comedy, vidya games, camping, etc.). Happy to meet up for a beer at Pint & Pawn or Lucky Pigeon and see if we "click" if you're still looking to expand your social circle.

I never got into fishing, but my uncle was literally the fish whisperer. He had a place on a small lake in NH (he's dead now, lived to 90+), and he had named the fish individually. He knew where to find each one, and would catch/release them just to maintain contact. He'd go out on a new lake and just sit for an hour watching, pull out some obscure lure, and in about three minutes land a gigantic bass or trout or whatever he was after. He would literally yell at the fish if they weren't biting, and they'd wake up and hit his line. It was amazing to watch. I miss that dude.

Gold panning (and lessons) is available in Byron on the Swift River up route 17. Not exactly in the Portland area, but great camping and hiking and scenery up there. And there's a lot more gold in them thar hills than anyone thinks there is.

I went to coos canyon with my family this past fall, I found an insane amount of garnets, I have a large mason jar full of just tiny garnets! The river is just large rocks, but if you dig them away you can find infinite tiny garnets and gold flakes!! I bought a pan and really want to go gold hunting this year!

The soon-to-be wife and I checked it out last weekend. It's a great setting for board games, DnD, etc. They only have beverages by the can right now, but I think they're hoping to expand their lineup as time goes on. Definitely a cool spot, you'll love it.

I was thinking Lucky Pigeon, just because it's familiar, but happy to pivot to the Pint & Pawn if there's interest in a bigger meetup.

Snoo_4108 t1_jd9woah wrote

I like to go a little up river in Byron and plant fake gold bits in the water for the suckers to pan out a 1/4 mile down stream. Usually we go early morning and try to salt the river bed nice and good. Then we sit back and watch the idiots through our binoculars as they sweat and work for the fake gold we carelessly tossed in earlier that morning. It’s just north on route 17

ghguyrur7 OP t1_jdans3u wrote

That’s sounds insane. Insanely fun! Lol I’m glad I’m looking for garnets. most people I know just keep it as a cool memory and don’t try to sell flakes so if anything you’re guaranteeing that they make awesome memories and giving them the chance at feeling like a adventurer

Maybe there are others like you who enjoy the escape room thing and you should ask the employees if there are other people who want to start a group. I'm pretty naive about these things but it might help you create a group. Have you looked into local Meet Ups? Not sure how popular they are now but they used to be good for people with similar interests.

That's the right way to fish. I wade, shore, estuary fish because I pack lite and cover some ground while casting. Bring binos or camera and bird, seal, whale sighting to boot. Rain, sun, snow it just makes it a different environment to experience.

I’ve never had any luck with searuns. I know a couple places to look locally though. Hoping to try this year. I do a lot of striper fishing. Get kicked off the beach pretty regular once they start on cruising ditches in the surf.
