24 weeks is quite generous, I think this is fine and fair. I also think the mother being in danger afterwards is fair reasoning for a later term abortion.

Why do you guys wanna abort at such late stages unless it's necessary? (Honest question) I just don't get it. At the same time, I don't think I'd ever opt for an abortion myself, but you do you its harms me 0%

Sometimes mothers find out after the 24 week mark that the baby has issues incompatible with life. So if you get that horrible news, in this state it's either try to carry the pregnancy to term (maybe risking your own health) or travel to another state at great expense. Changing the law allows for Maine doctor's and the mother to make the best choice.

One of my good friends found out that their baby had suffered a serious issue and was no longer going to live at just past 4 months. She was heartbroken- had a name picked out, working on a nursery, planning a shower. She had to have an abortion despite the baby being very much wanted because it was not capable of living outside of the womb. It was incredibly tough for her- I cannot imagine how much harder it would be if she had to wait to actually deliver or wait for the fetus to start making her seriously ill before getting medical health. I feel like people who oppose late term abortion do not understand much about how pregnancy works.

Then expanding it to include medically necessary reasons (a child not surviving pregnancy, birth, or incapable of living long, or even a lifelong debilitating issue would totally be included) would be good thing.

Yup, I gotta say I'm sorry you're being down voted. It seems like you asked a real question. I just want to say thank you for really asking.

It’s only ever done in extreme situations where the baby would not survive or be at considerable risk for the mother. There was a woman who had to travel out of Maine to NY to get these services because her baby didn’t have a skull. It’s a medical procedure for unfortunate things that sometimes happen in pregnancy. It’s not just cause someone is like “oh, wait, nevermind!” at that stage. If you are actually asking in good faith and not just antagonizing people.

It's about leaving the medical process and decisions between the patient and doctor. the state ought not have any input.

I think you asked and worded this question superbly. I don't think you were being malicious in any sense of the word. Hate that you were downvoted for asking why people support a certain thing.. Civil discourse should always be a priority when discussing sensitive subjects like this. Idk just my thoughts. Really not trying to upset anyone by saying that

Meh, whatever. I'm used to it. Especially when the subject is controversial.

These points mean nothing anyways so 🤷

It’s not up to you to determine what is fine and fair. This has nothing to do with you. It’s between the pregnant person and their doctor. I say this with no animosity. It’s just none of your business.

It's also not up to you either. And none of your business. Although, I do agree with you, it should be between a pregnant woman and her doctor.

Suppose the mom and Dr say the reason for justified abortion is mom's depression. Aborting a 7 month old life is evil. Physicians who do this work are evil and worse than pedos.

Sounds like something a pedo would say.

If I found out that after a 20 week fetal survey ultrasound, that my baby has severe mental retardation or physical disabilities, it could take up to a month of decision making and talking to doctors to figure out what to do. I would want to have a choice.
