I think like you. My partner would rather wait until it's all over and it makes no sense to me. I enjoy the physical activity and it's easier to enjoy it when I'm not screwing up my back bc it's too heavy.
Not trying to be a dink but you don’t have to brim the shovel every scoop, for example if we get 12” I scoop the top 6” and then the bottom 6” depending on how heavy the snow is
Yes, I do this.
I was hit by a car in 2017, as a pedestrian. All the yoga in the world can't always prevent back injury, sometimes I can throw it out from getting up too fast. I'm also fairly petite so it's not weight related. Just one day Paula Anderson was impatient and decided hitting me (while I was on the sidewalk) was justified bc in her words to police "I thought I could get around her" According to witnesses I recoiled from being hit, and her car carried me for 5 or 6 feet before she stopped. I don't really remember it, just being unable to walk for a solid 3 months after that. I fear for my old age and falling.
But yes fully agreed and use that method just my twisted little body hates even light shoveling now lol.
Yikes that’s tough and I’m sorry to hear that, again I’m not trying to be a jerk I just wanted to point out that other techniques exists. I see a lot of people going full bore shoveling heavy snow in giant scopes at the limits of there strength which is a great way to blow out a back. I hope your back improves I know it can be a tough road.
This is the way
Probably once this evening after it's over. My plan is to stay warm and dry with a hot chocolate and my latest hobby project.
I’m working on my cross stitch! Shoveling can wait for morning. I don’t have anywhere to be.

Quilts, quilts and more quilts. Today, a round one made from a round tablecloth I found at the bins.
That’s so fun! I’m making some curtains out of a couple old quilts!
Yay!

I simply don't. Have to use 4x4 to get in drive way. I don't get packages delivered and friends don't visit in the winter.

Tomorrow, I’ll deal with it tomorrow (aside from clearing a path to my work shop).

Work
You have a tough job.
Mostly tools, a few projects….and a whole lotta mess 😂
Once, after I snowblow the one time.
Twice for sure with the snowblower, went out a 8:30 this morning it’s pretty heavy clumpy crap. Definitely glad I didn’t make the mistake of waiting.
Went out at 12 with the blower and had the same thought as you.
Don't blame her, blame the person who pissed her off in the first place.
(Disclaimer: I didn't do it this time, I swear. No appointments or nuffin'.)
We're gonna go snowblow when the wind dies down and decides not to be a bitch to glasses-wearers like ourselves.
"Ski goggles are not just for skiing" said one glasses wearer to another.
Ooh, hadn't even thought of ski goggles. Will have to get a pair and try 'em out, thank you!
One pass done. I’ll shovel again after the heaviest wave is done and maybe once more before bed. 2-3 times.
At least 3 times
I’m not, plow guys does the driveway. I’ve got a small snowblower for my deck which I usually do twice to keep extra weight off it.
This is going to all melt over the next week anyway.
Exactly. I'm not going to try hard on the cleaning up, pushing or shoveling it back or anything. By lunch tomorrow my driveway will be bare, deck will be bare and the snowbanks will melt. Let mother nature take care of the mess she made.
It better melt a damn significant amount, then, because I am tired of seeing the frozen cloud pee hellscape every time I step outside.
Love the cold. Hate the snow.
Mike Haggett says may be another storm coming end of the week. There's another one getting revved up in CA anyway.
Depends on size and and method of removal. If I had a large driveway and a quality snowblower I’d probably wait until tonight/tomorrow morning.
If shoveling by hand, best to take 2 shifts.
I got a big one in this morning, going back out again once it stops.
Yep same
My husband is usually the one who shovels our porch steps & sidewalks, but he’s out of town visiting his mom in the hospital, so I just shoveled snow for the first time in about 10 years. (And I realized that I don’t express enough appreciation when he does it.)
I’m no spring chicken, so I shoveled 4 times today — I figured I’d hurt myself if I tried to deal with more than 2-3” inches at a time. I’m glad I did!
Did a pass with the snowblower and shoveled both decks at 6am and 9am. Will do one more round this afternoon. My snowblower doesn’t like the paste so I have to do it often.
3 - its a magic number. Yes, it is.
Shovel tomorrow, it'll be nice out.
I was in the 3-5” zone on channel 6’s map, and we EASILY have close to a foot so far. Already snowblowed once, probly one more either tonight or first thing tomorrow.
Twice: we did one type morning just blue and we'll probably hit it again this evening
I snowblowed the walkways once already just to get out the house. I’ll do the rest when it’s done.
Looks like we will have a lull around 2pm so I'll snow blow then. Then take care of the rest with a shovel tomorrow morning.
Twice at least. The snow slides off the solar panels, and there’s quickly a massive 18” pile on my back deck. Add onto that everything coming down directly on the deck; it needs to be managed throughout the day.
1 so far
3 total
Two times so far. I like to spread it out.
I'm going out now (1:00) and then some cleanup later
3 so far since 730am. Think I'm not going out for number 4 until it's done. It's definitely slowed way down here. It's wet... I'm glad to be lucky enough to be at home today to keep up with it rather than shoveling it all at once after work.
March is the snowiest month! People forget this like every year hahaha
2 so far, early morning around 7am and around 1pm. It was about a foot in sabattus.
My husband snow blowed this morning so he could get to work, unfortunately he was needed…and then we’ll clean up the rest later!
Been out there 3 times already. Since it’s pretty heavy and wet snow. Looks like on the seacoast area, not the beach, it’s dwindling down.
Just spent an hour doing round 1, which was the fiddly stuff (sidewalk, end of driveway, stoop, rear patio), going to go out again after a tea and a pee to tackle the bulk of the driveway. This shit is HEAVY.
The fiddly stuff is the worst. It takes so long, with minimal results, but if you don't do it it's bound to freeze in icy ridges and stay there another month.
Yeah, and a lot of it is in the shade, so with the warm days and freezing nights ahead, it'd be a total shitshow if I didn't take care of it now. At least the driveway and front steps get sun. Just went back out to do the end of the driveway again since the plow came by and pushed what I have to imagine was basically white cement back across it.
First pass done for the bill and another clean up planned for once it’s stops falling.
Hell…just once today! 🤣
Lots of heart attacks in the forecast for people who only have a shovel and an average sized driveway for this one. It's wet, heavy and there's lots of it already.
Just did a second pass with the snowblower and it's basically useless at this point. If you're anywhere where it's been above freezing and waited to shovel till now, I feel for you, it's heavy!
My driveway is a half mile long. I've plowed and shoveled twice already. Will clean it up again tomorrow.
I went out around noon and it took around 2 hr to do everything with breaks and clearing out/off the chicken coop and cars. Just as I finished the city plow came by again. Street is mostly clear now so I shouldn't have any more massive banks at the end of the driveway. It's really heavy nasty stuff. My new Cub Cadet was struggling in some areas.
I'll make one more pass this evening and be good! It's super heavy and wet. Get on it folks, and be careful.
I will shovel twice, once when it’s over and again when all the shit falls off the roof
one snowblower pass right as the last flakes were coming down. Heading out tonight, so wanted to have it cleanish. Will go out tomorrow mid day and try to get some of the icy/compact spots up.
May also go out later today once the city plow comes by too, just to get that berm down.
Once, I shelled out for a nice Ariens snowblower last year and the think just demolishes everything.
I’ll let the landlord do it
7AM, 10AM, and 3PM. I should be done for the day. There was over a foot of miserably wet snow that I wouldn't want to tackle in much more than 4" increments.
I cleared the driveway and pathways once at about 7"; much longer and the snowblower is a lot more difficult to work with. Probably won't bother going out again until tomorrow morning.
This heavy shit broke my shovel, so maybe just the once.
Not today! I’m putting it off until tomorrow.
Depends how much you got. I try to shovel once every 5-6 inches
I mean, it’s pretty light and fluffy with no real wind out there- if I had a leaf blower I’d be using that! But I’m going out shortly to snowblow because if I don’t I’ll regret it later (somehow).
I'm not gonna bother. We have a path tramped down for around the house, road is snowed shut and no sidewalks. Just gonna wait for this to melt down over the next week or two.
Zero times
Don't have to shovel at all

If I need to go somewhere and the plow dude hasn't shown up yet.. then shovel out to and around the car, the just enough to get in and out. (My back isn't what it used to be) Occasionally, if my landlords Airbnb is occupied I've had to clear their space as well (ok, didn't HAVE to but I felt bad and knew the plow guy wasn't gonna hit our spot again that night)
And idk what you mean about no snow until now... We've gotten snow since at least December this winter...
I dont touch it till the storm is done. Still snowing here.
We’ve cleared the driveway and walkways three times today.
Not. Men do it for me, because I'm rad, and sexy as hell.
I actually shovel out my dooryard myself, and if someone wants to do it for me, I won't complain.
I’ve been out 5 times to do the stairs and walkway, three times to clean off the vehicles. From 7am to 6pm. I think it stopped “snowing” around 5ish…
I shoveled once and we had snow after thanksgiving.
zero times because i have a big strong boyfriend to do it for me 😎

I'd rather shovel 2 inches of snow six times than 12 inches of snow one time and is so much easier. It makes getting the final plow berm at the end of the driveway a piece of cake. I'm out during the storm a lot but I'm usually completely done before my neighbors have even started.
